If it came with Win 8.1 originally installed, it should reset it to that.

iam not sure about this because i did not take any backup :(
and windows was crashed

Your hard disk already includes a hidden partition by default to store the system image file and the OneKey Recovery system program files. This default partition is hidden for security reasons.

Thanks alot for replying guys :)

So after going through all your replies i guess i have got 2 options

Option 1 : i have lenovo 2 recovery disks
and after completion of 2 disks it asks for core disk
if i can get an iamge of win 8.1 core disk from somewhere i guess it will work
will see whether product key will be detected or not?

Option 2 : I will run the windows update and will try to insert the product key ( which i have extracted using belarc advisory )

any suggestions?

Ok, after going over this I may be misunderstanding something, are you saying that when you do the recovery, you are not able to actually complete it because of the bad 3rd disk, so therefore you are left with a non-functioning system? Or are you just left with a Windows 8 installation that is functioning (albeit without a valid key), but just hasn't been upgraded to 8.1?

Are you sure they wiped the whole drive or just the C: partition? If they truly wiped the entire drive including the recovery partition then you really have a problem. Can't use OEM key to download the ISO last I heard.

that 3rd bad disk which is a core disk have been replaced by the service guys with another disk of lenovo g505s(win8) and continued the process :(
so iam left with a win8 working condition but without product key

So is Win 8 working now! If it is, update it to 8.1 then try the key you found. If that does not work, unfortunately, you will have to buy another key.

Maybe someone else can answer if OEM version is different from Core version and if the key will work. I have never had to go through this myself and honestly don't know.

Glad I made recovery usb back when I got my laptop and imaged the partitions.

OEM license is built in BIOS right? so it has nothing to do with hard disk wipe?
