Solved Normal CPU Temperatures?

Hi jds63, I have my new fan installed but I'm kind of disappointed. The temps are higher. I'm also disappointed with the SpeedFan program as it actually runs the temps higher. It seems that SpeedFan does control the fan speed, but it slows them down to approximately half speed and consequently the temps go up. In this situation the fans need to run at full speed and even then I get these results:



The new fan is blowing out.

Check your BIOS should be settings for fans there, set to normal. Feel be good to have that front fan blowing air in as suggested before. Not sure if side fan should be taking out instead of blowing in, if disrupting proper flow.

Most use speedfan just to monitor or give result in forums, i am not familiar with using it to control fan speeds, check the BIOS also give you pretty correct results on temps and fan speeds too.

Still wonder if applying of thermal paste was done good, if that has any effect on this too, as it can.

Here is the announcement given when you start SpeedFan: "SpeedFan is an hardware monitoring software that is able to change fan speeds according to system temperatures. SpeedFan can read S.M.A.R.T. values (and temperatures) from your hard disks and change the FSB speed."

My bios says that the normal speed for the CPU fan is ~2200rpm and SpeedFan runs it at around ~1200rpm. The PWM fan runs at its recommended max rotational speed. Which is around 1200rpm and SpeedFan hasn't reduced it's speed yet.

As you may remember, I accidentally bought the wrong fan at first. Well, I think it will run real fine in the front position.

I'll probably redo the thermal past this weekend.

Jim, download manual for board, may help you and also good to have, not sure if you ever downloaded.

Settings are on pages 3-28 to 3-30 for fan controls, also in the BIOS set system defaults from main page.

Never meant for you to use speedfan to adjust speeds, just monitor. PWM will vary the speeds as you saw, since CPU has it.
So have a Non-PWM want to use in front, that's fine plus more cooling. Post back when have more results,your most welcome.

Things are getting better. The front fan is now in and has improved temps considerably. And, that's with a heavier load. The temps shown were with the side panel on, having run for an hour.

What was done for putting it under heavy load ? Still higher then post #41, at around a 15% more load. Looks good with both noctua's there. I am not a big gamer, but running a intense game mine is lower, just as an example.

A guess for now is the thermal paste was not done sufficient. Try organizing wires in case not to block any flow, good wire management is key also.

Not sure as said before about side fan blowing in as being right for flow of air, pretty big fan too. Again some will feel kind of high still. Not think of trying a CPU Burn test at this point.

I run MBAM Premium for load simulation, but there is something happening in the middle of the night that I can't figure out.



I've done some reading and there doesn't seem to be a scientifically proven decision on the best flow direction for the side fan, but the consensus of intuitive guessing seems to be in.

Truthfully i can't see a Malware program creating that much stress on system to let you know how it reacts. Really wanted to stress CPU most would try Prime95 i am not familiar with using this program mostly used for overclockers and when want to test also for problems. Try this one, but i would use program to monitor temps while you are using it Download IntelBurnTest - MajorGeeks

Use the standard test only. 67c max of 77c at 36% load is still kind of high, maybe it is the cooler, maybe applied paste. Some say there is a burn in period for paste. I just meant in BIOS if set default settings, keep any PWM fans (CPU and 1 PWM u have) to normal speeds, increasing RPM's when temps get higher, decreasing RPM's when temps get cooler.

Possible to say either or with side fan, can blow in or out.

Hi jds63, the load from the MBAM program comes from the daily file scan. It tests every file in the machine in less than 20 minutes and that is a lot of work. Talk about a lot of work... that IntelBurn test really cranks. I have the limit in CoreTemp set at 80c and it shut down the machine in very short time. I haven't had a chance to re-do the paste yet, but maybe next weekend. I also realized I have a daily Smart Defrag that runs every night. That's what causes the heat every night. Looks like got an answer from doing the intel burn test showing how fast it got hot without cooling well. As i did want you to be careful having to use something like this as do not want to fry the chip or damage the motherboard in process. Why said monitor it well, use only standard test.

Anti-virus not going to stress CPU enough to tell, but if it is not cooling well sure it will raise it higher then it should. Never cared for those defrag programs, an HDD does not need to be constantly defragged as your going to kill the life of the drive.
