Where did you purchase your copy of windows 8?

I bought Windows 8 PRO in a shop. Full price. Package and everything looking original.
Why do you ask? Is it possible to get bad installation media?

Preparing now for a new clean full install. Will do it tomorrow.

Did a new clean install with all drives unallocated. As clean as you can get it, I thought.
But I had to repeat the installation several times, because I got several BSOD's. The text of the BSOD were:
bad pool caller
page fault in non paged area
memory management

Now Windows 8 is installed, I made an update, but now the search in the list on the right (charm) does not work.
So it seems I have to reinstall again. I am really getting tired of this.


Any suggestion what can be wrong?
Question: do I install drivers immediately after the fresh install, or after the windows update?

I installed again. During the installation, in the step "getting files ready for installation", I get following message:
"windows installation encountered an unexpected error. verify that installation sources are accessible and restart. error code 0xc0000005".

That was an installation on a Samsung 840 PRO SSD.
After that, I disconnected the SSD and made a new installation on a WD harddrive. That was OK.

What is your opinion: a problem with the Samsung SSD that was responsible for all my previous BSOD crashes and also responsible for the installation problems on the SSD now?

Did you write the image to disc or have you created a USB stick with the OS.
Does your SSD have the latest firmware installed?

I made a fresh clean install with the original Windows 8 PRO DVD install.
My SSD has the latest firmware.
What is your conclusion?

We can`t conclude yet the reason for BSOD.

I now took out the SSD and making a new clean install on a hardidsk. But with the harddisk installation there are numerous problems as well: error during installation or BSOD after installation.
So I would conclude that the problem is not SSD or harddisk, because the problem occurs with both.

I don't know what to do next. Any suggestion?

Lot's of different BSOD error codes and lot's of different causes blamed.
And the problem still remains even after swapping out the SSD for a platter based drive
And the problem still remains with a clean installation of Windows
BIOS was recently issued (2012)
The only thing (IMO) that these all have in common is hardware.

Please run these free diagnostics and post back with the results: Hardware Diagnostics
Please run the Seatools hard drive diagnostic as it also tests the controllers on the motherboard.

Thanks for the advice. It will take me some time to study and implement the hardware diagnostics.

I started now with the diagnostics, beginning with memtest.

I am not sure if this is relevant, but I could not follow your guide 100% exactly.
Step 4: you instruct to burn a IiigSO file. The file I downloaded was called mt420 and I burned that to disc.
Step 6: the instruction says to follow the prompts on the screen to run the test. With the file I downloaded, the test starts immediately without any prompts.
Is there anything I did wrong so far? Please let me know.

Well anyway, the test starts automatically, and after about 1 second red sections start to appear at the bottom of the screen.
I will now continue with testing memory individually (I have 2 memory "bars") and the different slots.

You did just fine.

Thanks for letting me know about the wording problems at the web page.
I've fixed the word IiigSO to be ISO and have added additional wording to let the user know the test might run automatically.

When the RED shows up, it means (most likely) bad RAM. Testing the sticks and slots individually will let you know where the problem lies. Then you replace the stuff that's bad and it should fix things for you. Although this is most likely the reason for your BSOD's, there may be other problems that also cause BSOD's - so post back if they continue.

Memory is bad. I just post the results so other readers can see the methodology and what you get from the memtest.

Test1: memory 1 and 2 in motherboard slot B2 and A2: bad (no picture)

Test2: memory 1 in slot B2: OK (see attachment)

Test3: memory 2 in slot B2: bad (see attachment)

Test4: memory 1 in slot A2: OK (see attachment)

Conclusion: motherboard slots B2 and A2 OK, memory1 OK, memory2 bad.

So I will replace memory and I will be on the road to recovery.

Hmm, That was the very first thing I suggested and apparently the built in memory diagnostic did not do a good job of finding fault. That is good to know.

There are limitations to the built-in memory diagnostic that I read about long ago. Since then I've preferred MemTest86+ - but even that isn't 100% reliable.
