That registry discovery is a good one.

Sorry for the dll. I could't attach it.
It was just an example to point out that it works. Wasn't complete (just recycle bin). You'll need a better one with all your needed icons.
Or do it with the registry since you got that working.

To attach unattachable files, put them in a folder & ZIP it.
The ZIP file SHOULD be attachable.

I did.

But it's maybe because this is a tutorial and we are not allowed to post attachments, be it zip.

This is normal.
When needed, we need to start a new thread in customization section for this kind of things.

You should be able to upload and attach a ZIP file as long as it's not over 8 MB.

OK sorry for the confusion.

Here is the dll in zip attachment.
You don't need to place it in system32 you can put it anywhere.

Remember that it's a 64bit one and will work on 64bit Windows but you got that in your specs mentioned. :thumb:

I've improved the icons + added a few others.

Looks like a nice icon resource file.


I will try them out.
In my research, I found that icon resource files should have the same attributes as the one you are replacing.

All the different sizes & color depth. & whatever.
When I can afford a program like Microangelo or something I'll buy it.
I like working with images.

The icons are the same size as original (256x256) so you can zoom in (Ctrl + scroll) on desktop just like the original ones.

I've learned from Vista icons and I've seen the 7/8 ones too:
As you see in my screenshot above you need 4bit, 8bit and 32bit colors.

All is good.

After studying it a bit I made a new folder & pasted in a bunch of icons.
It worked with changing icons.
So simple.No need for a DLL file at all.

Yes, because you've already modified your registry. I've tested that as well and by default only the dll option refreshes.

You can write with normal letters though. I can see pretty well and I don't use glasses . Just sunglasses.

I belong to a yahoo group comprised of mainly older people.
Their posts sometimes use HUGE text.

If you somehow don't like the dll method because you got it working through registry, you can also get the icons I used as standalone ICO files if you like.

I can use an existing dll & simply add an icon I made.
Depending on what the icon is for, I need to check the existing icon properties to find out what sizes & colors to use in mine.
Pretty simple!

That's why I make my own when possible. I don't always trust the web with dll's.

I have so much anti-virus & protection I mainly don't need to worry.
I BOUGHT my stuff & got full protections.
For example I googled for something & clicked on the link & Avast popped up saying it was known for viruses & other crap, back off & do not continue.
I can also test things online before I download them.
This protection COST me but is well worth the price I paid.
