My recycle bin icon won't refresh automatically.

    Hello,

My recycle bin icon won't refresh automatically.

A tutorial on fixing this would be nice.

    I have Windows 8.

Right now I have to press F-5 key to get it to change from full to empty or vice/versa.

    Hello Medab,

To fix this, you would need to remove the Recycle Bin from the taskbar, do the tutorial below to fix the non refreshing Recycle Bin, then do the tutorial above again to add the Recycle Bin back to the taskbar.

    Hope this helps,

    I was using custom icons..

After switching to Default Icons & setting & unsetting them several times they work.

Also, I accidentally deleted it from the Desktop.

I got it back by checking & Applying & unchecking & checking & Applying the checkbox for showing Recycle Bin on Desktop.

I don't know what the problem with the custom icons was.

Windows 7 had that issue with using custom icons as well.

You might see if this may help with it in Windows 8 as well.

I am going to try to attach pictures & a zip with the 2 icons in it.
Maybe someone can figure it out.
I can't attach pictures so here are links to them

Change the icons in "Desktop Icon Settings" to use your custom icons.

Next, change the values in the registry as per the tutorial.

Restart the computer, and see how if the custom Recycle Bin icon refreshes now.

I'm not sure what to write in the registry.

Here are the addresses of the 2 files:

    C:\Users\medab1\Desktop\EXE_FILES\Documents\Tomb RaiderII - Leerer Papierkorb.ico FULL

    Tomb RaiderII - Voller Papierkorb.ico

    Tomb RaiderII - Leerer Papierkorb.ico

    C:\Users\medab1\Desktop\EXE_FILES\Documents\Tomb RaiderII - Tomb RaiderII - Voller Papierkorb.ico EMPTY

Here is a link to the 2 images in a zip file on one of my websites.

I can edit some things with regedit IF I know exactly to type in.
    In this case I don't.
Thank you for taking the time to help.
It will help others if we can get this issue fixed.

You would need to type in the full path of the .ico file within quotes that you want to use for each one.

    I've also checked the icons.
    Pretty simple and should work.

Renaming them without spaces like: tr2empty.ico and tr2full.ico would be better for this I think.

    Hello,

    I'm working on it.

    See picture---

I need to figure out how to use the quotes you mentioned.
An exact example would be nice.
I tried to provide exact information in the picture.

EDIT- Perhaps I should restart after editing registry?
In the Windows 7 tute it said it was not necessary.

Hello, My recycle bin full/empty icons won't refresh automatically. I need to press F-5 key to refresh them. I have tried lots of ways to fix it. I think it may have something to do with the icon cache, not sure though.
