No no no, they are not getting rid of it darn it! but they are likely going to change the name due to trademark dispute if rumors are true.
It is now the "New User Interface" (bleh!)
Microsoft advises developers to stop using 'Metro' name in apps following possible trademark dispute | The Verge
Any other suggestions for a new name?
Personally, I would call it Sh!t, because that is exactly what it is.
Wow! Nothing like going all out with a one-liner on your very first post here! At least I know where you stand right away.
Pray tell us what you base this statement on, for your specs show only Windows 7?
Well since you asked, I guess I will tell. Although, you may want to grab a cup of coffee before reading on
Yes I show only Windows 7 on my specs because I myself (and millions of others for that fact) really want absolutely nothing to do with Windows 8. I have installed at one time or another all the public releases of 8 only to uninstall them not more than a week later.
Why, you ask?
Personally I think Windows 8 is a big step down from 7, I think it's UI is outright ugly, especially the Metro or whatever they are going to call in now UI which is just putrid.
YES I realize than it can be turned on or off, but there should be an option of not installing it at all, it's just another way for Microcrap to keep their hand in your wallet to keep you spending money at their app store. As for the other Metro UI tiles...... I know where my social media, sports and ALL MY OTHER favorite sites are, I don't need to be led by the hand by Bill Gates to be shown where they are. Or just how about this ...... I don't want my desktop or laptop to look like my cellphone / smartphone? not that I would even consider using a smartphone or cellphone with the Metro UI.
Why don't you take a look at AOL's start screen from 1996 and compare it to Windows 8 Metro UI ....... they both look awfully similar ..... and ugly
During the internets infancy, I used AOL for about a week before I dropped the AOL browser and just used their internet service to connect to the internet and I either used Internet Explorer or Netscape to surf the web. I have always been one who has disliked being forced to look at nonsense and thats all the AOL browser was, a bunch of nonsense and it is the same with the Metro UI ...... a bunch of advertising, money making nonsense
Not that I am against capitalism because I believe everyone should be able to make a few bucks for their efforts, but hey Bill, when is enough enough?
Bottom line is that I am running Windows 7, 64 bit , 8 gigs of ram, Nvidia GEForce 5200 Graphics card with 3 TB worth of HD's. In my mind Windows 7 is probably the best operating system Microcrap has put out yet and instead of building on it Microcrap has gone in a completely different direction. Personally I feel like the public is once again being robbed and screwed by Microcrap, and for me, I will not waste my time and resources in putting something so putrid and advertisement laden on my HD.
Do you all remember going from Windows 95 to 98? or from 98 to ME? remember all the nightmares? Windows 95 was a good solid OS for it's time and Microcrap decided to get funny and mess with it and that's exactly what they did with 98, create a mess, then Windows ME was supposed to be the fix for 98 and all Microcrap did was drive it in a little deeper. After Windows 95 It wasn't untill Windows XP that Windows home users actually got a DECENT OS from Microcrap. Then after XP Microcrap decided to get funny again and Windows users got screwed with Windows Vista. Whether you realize it or not ..... there is a pattern here. I use the term "home users" because I am not including Windows NT and 2000, these were good OS's which were used by "some" home users but were generally geared more towards business owners and such.
I am here to tell you that there are probably going to be more holes in this OS than a gangster drive by shooting
so please bookmark this thread because I really do not want to keep saying "I told you so" ........ if you do decide to waste your hard earned money on this OS, then good luck with it.
Just so you know, I am not computer illiterate but I am also not going to lay out my technical resume here because I feel I really should not have to. However I have been fooling with these things since most here were probably just gleams in their parents eyes, back when ram was measured in KB and MB and not gigs, back when everything was done in DOS and you either built your own or purchased your computer from your local Radio Shack, when you used to have to take your house phone handset and sit it on that big assed external modem in order to connect to the internet which meant no one in the house could use the phone while you were connected and if they did, you got booted off. I am also the one who said well over 10 years ago that Mac's COULD be hacked and infected by viruses when everyone was saying "No, No, No". All one needs to do is just look at the past year or so for Mac users and see my point made. And yes, everytime I think about all those smug Mac users, I giggle my ass off
Oh BTW, I really do not think users will appreciate when Microcrap starts dictating what software they can and cannot install on a OS they paid good money for ......... and yes, it is starting with 8. Microcrap is just keeping that one on the low down because they have not gotten into your pockets yet. Whether it's a move to deter pirating / hacking or whatever it may be and not that I condone it but if I lay down $2 - $300 or more on an OS, you had better bet I am going to install whatever I feel I want on that OS. Regardles of what the EULA says on install, after I lay down my cash and walk out of the store with that OS in my hands, it becomes mine, to do with what I whish, whether it be legal or illegal, like I said before I do not condone illegal internet or software activities but if I did, I am a big boy and will suffer the consequences of such activities. I do not need someone to tell me what I can and cannot do with something after I purchase it. That's like buying a home an the bank telling you that you cannot paint it or make any upgrades to it, the hell I won't!
Oh and I almost forgot, the touch screen technology, not that I think it's a bad thing, but whatever you do with your fingers you ought to be able to do with a mouse gesture and not force people to purchase new hardware to enjoy the benefits of touch screen technology.
How about the disappearance of the start button? to whomever decided to do this ..... real genius move bonehead!
I could probably go on for hours with this but I have other things to do today, if one wants a truly unbiased view of Windows 8, my suggestion is to visit sites that are not suported by Microsoft, where users will give you their honest opinions.
Sorry to be so long winded ......... but you asked!
