I'm quite glad with it to an extent. Personally, after I uninstalled some media apps, like Music and Video since they kind of suck, and I pinned my Libraries in Windows Explorer to the Start Screen and some of my vital apps; I'm content. Though I find the sidebar Charms UI sort of awkward at time, and I find the fact that some of the metro design elements overlay too awkwardly on the Desktop View. I also think that Start Screen and Desktop View should be meshed together and not segregated so much. Other than that, I'm happy.

yes i like win 8 very much i suppose i would be in the minority because i loved vista from the first time i installed the pre betas that were leaked lol

i like new things and having to learn all the new ways of getting something done.
and then getting stuck coming here to the forums and someone has already figured it out when it gets the better of me

Some of the 'Desktop' side improvements are good ie Explorer, most of the Task manager etc


The Metro side of things - not so much.


Stability wise my laptop is pretty solid with W8, but my desktop has quite a few issues. Still working on Driver vs OS culprit.


Overall, there are a quite a few steps forwards, a few steps back and a lot of wtf are they thinking?

I'm very happy with it on my old laptop - speedy & stable - just have to get used to hitting the "Win" key quite a lot. Virtualbox on desktop is fine to "play" with, but I can't be bothered to do a full dual-boot install as I can't be bothered to re-install programs yet again, until the full, paid version is available. On my old machine - I still can't get Metro Apps to work at all......ho ho!

As I recall, the XP and 7 betas expired after a certain time period, but the 8 beta does not. If you use 8's classic desktop, it can give you many of the advantages of Windows 7.

When Windows 7 reaches EOL (assuming I'm alive then) and I'm forced to make a choice, as it stands at present, I would most likely let down all my friends I've helped out over the years with Windows issues and go 'MAC'. Sorry Microsoft and I know you made me a MVP some years ago but with this one you really have screwed up.
If I only had one operating system to think about I might be persuaded to stay with it as there are many hacks to make it more friendly and I'm sure many more will be discovered, but as I test software for McAfee and others, I have a multi-OS setup here and Windows 8 has finally broken it as far as I'm concerned by taking away the ability to govern manually how devices are installed and paired.
As it is now I have to switch off my Microsoft Bluetooth keyboard and mouse when booting to Windows 8. If I don't I am forced to reconnect the damn things in each of the 5 other OS boots.
That means using my clunky (by comparison) wired mouse and keyboard, which are usually tucked away for use only in the BIOS or Safe Mode when needed.
Yes that's my main beef. There are others, such as there should be an on/off switch for the Metro UI - and I mean all of it. It's wrong to force the issue the way Microsoft is doing at present.

The only Apple device that impresses my is my iPad2 - which I love & hate almost equally. I don't even want an iPhone. But if Microsoft are going to continue forcing people to think in tablet terms, even on their desktops, then I could be persuaded to defect to the dark side.

I think I will enjoy Windows 8 on a tablet; even if metro is different than Windows 7, the base is the same, I means if you get in control panel, the registry, or the command prompt it's Windows, I'm use too it. I dislike Android for that, not enough configuration, when you need something special it's a pain.

What's an example? Family members have Android tablets but aren't tech gurus. I'm in the market for a tablet and haven't decided which kind to get. Very intrigued with 8, but I'm willing to wait a while to see how they turn out.

I'm gone wait to see what Dell or may be Lenovo as too offer. I basically need something to Google stuff on the web and also access network at my customer place, so a iPad or Android is not interesting, I’m using a laptop for now, but I will prefer a tablet with Linux or Windows, Windows will be the one I prefer.

@colonel Travis- toshiba thive... its cheaper but the spec's r the same except for the screen contrast.
