Iphone 5 - Stick to Samsung or new Nokia Windows 8 phone

The Nokia 920 camera and screen appear to outclass everything out there, but all I've seen are videos.

Hate to dissapoint you but Nokia admitted in a press release that the Photo's were altered and the Video was just to let you know how it MIGHT look and was not taken on the 920.

This is true, but I don't even know why as the camera speaks for itself.

This is their Optical Image Stabilization at work compared to what seems to be the Samsung GSIII.

And independent testing of night photography. Again, why some were staged is beyond me as the camera again speaks for itself.

Have you met anyone with an android that ACTUALLY loves their phone?

Yes.

I have only spoken to a few about their android phones.

No one complained - they all said they were happy with it - to them it was pretty much like an iphone - but cheaper.

(Iphones may be better technically - but many don't need that and won't notice).

I don't know where you get this idea from about android - I have never heard anything bad about it personally.

Perhaps if you ask people to fill in a questionnaire, they try and think about any little things to say -that don't really bother them in general - like the oem bloatware, for example.

Of course, some of them are also very cheap - you can't expect them to be great performers.

Hi there
most of this stuff is only of interest to previous Iphone users.

To me the new iPhone - even the new one doesn't stack up even remotely against Samsung galaxy / htc or whoever.

It still has all the trappings of a "Dinosaur" phone.

Let's see, it's got a bigger screen, but is physically smaller and lighter than any previous iPhone. It's faster than any previous iPhone and the A6 chip is 2x as fast as previous versions (which were NEVER considered slow). It has 4G LTE, you can do Facetime over Cellular, Facebook is integrated directly into iOS 6, and it has better battery life than any previous iPhone. The dock connector is now reversible. And it works the same as all previous devices so you don't have anything new to learn.

I don't see this disappointing too many previous generation iPhone owners.

Jimbo...what is completely lacking in this device compared to the other devices you mention?

Not to speak for Jimbo but the iPhone screen is 4", which is smaller than a lot of phones out there now, not even high-end ones. Everything (that I've seen so far) about the iPhone 5 is inconsequential. For Apple people all these new features are great, but none of it is ground-breaking. This is probably the first time in years that company has done nothing but play catch-up to the competition.

Ok, but I take my phone with me everywhere I go, and when I run it's with me as my GPS device that tracks my runs via runkeeper. I don't want a 7" screen on my darn phone...this thing has to be able to fit in your hand, in your pocket, etc.

This is what happens with an established product. Once it works as you want and people love it, you simply make it faster, smaller, lighter, and get better battery life.

If steve jobs was alive, he'd be outraged...

The new iphone isn't along the lines of the company believing they know what people want before they want it. It's now them giving what people want, and catching up to the others. Built in Facebook? Android already has something like that. Windows Phone has built in social networking and had it before ANYONE. NFC support? Nope. Wireless charging? Nope. A stand out feature? I don't think so. A stretched out iphone 4 doesn't equal groundbreaking, it just equals keeping a user base satisfied.

Gee, it doesn't even enter the higher end android or Windows Phone class! I seriously believe in my bones Windows Phone 8 and android 4.1.55.3.3.4.4 or 5 will be the desired handsets and will be competing against each other. I don't see the iphone breaking new ground other than existing users. I read a preditiction that apple will sell 10 million of these "new" phones within weeks. They probably will, but many of which will be upgrades from the current previous iphone and the one that has Siri preinstalled.

Lackluster indeed....

Before I forget...

Apple

I'm outraged right now at apple as they obviously copied the Nokia Lumia 920 for their new nanos and the itouch (mini-ipad) looks like the 820. So it's not cool for Samsung or anyone else to copy, but it's totally cool for THEM to copy?! No! Outrage! I hope Nokia sues them as they have a patent they filed recently over the design of the Lumia 9xx series.

And on the flip side, you have this website saying the improvements are really want people want the most;

From this article: The iPhone 5: My First Impressions - NYTimes.com
Overall, though, Apple seems to have put its focus on the important things you want in an app phone: size, shape, materials, sound quality, camera quality and speed (both operational and Internet data), and that’s good. I’ll have a full review once I’ve had some time to test the thing

Guess it all comes down to perception. Is the glass 1/2 empty or half full.

I"ve have an Motorola Droid X2 with Vz service for year and a half. Talk about picking a lemon model! This particular model had screen problems from the get-go. Great phone when it works. Never had problems with apps, synching, etc. I just recieved my 4th ->Yes! 4th replacement phone last week. I tried to talk Vz into letting me get a different model 2 phones ago. No dice. The one they just sent me has a screen problems. Not only do I think it's the physical screen hardware, but also a driver for it is inefiecent. I'll contact them again for another replcement. I'll keep contacting and getting one until they get it right.

I'm done with Android, Motorola, and Google. I'm up for a new one in January. It will most likely be a Samsung Windows 8 phone. I just saw one. It's sweet.

Most are biased towards the iPhone, it can't do no wrong. Even when they come out with a new phone like the iPhone 5 with no actual technical innovation (unheard of from Apple at one time), the media needs to dig for a positive spin on them. What they should actually do is not be biased and give the real impression which is NOT impressive at all.

Compare specs between the Nokia 920 and the iPhone 5 and the Nokia is on top pretty much across the board. Better screen, better battery time, better camera etc. The only win I see from Apple is in their strength and that is in marketing. It is this marketing that gives users the perception that Apple products are superior, even though often they are not.
