I actually like the new OS . . .

I like the new OS too. It only took me about 1/2 hour to get used to it and realize I could do everything I did in 7 in a way that is as efficient, although different.

I doubt that I will get a touch screen in the near future though, as I am perfectly happy with the keyboard and mouse.

Maybe when more vendors enter the Windows tablet market I may give it a try and will enjoy the touch screen input there. :)

The thing definitely grows on you. I've had it on my 17" laptop (Dell Inspiron 17R) for about a week now. I don't think I could go back again. I kind of like having the Metro back there for "light" computing. Otherwise I'm at the desktop.

Max . . . Agree with you. Heavy duty computing still done on desktop using non-Metro Apps. It's like having the benefits of both a tablet environment and a desktop environment on a single system (of course, without the portability of the tablet).

I'm finding that as time goes on I'm gradually re-arranging the Start Screen to show the stuff I want to see at a glance. When I'm not actively working in the desktop environment I just pop the Metro onto the screen and let it sit there. I really thought I'd hate it but flowing in and out of the desktop is turning out to be much easier than I expected. I really don't think I'd want to go back to Win7 at this point. The environment is becoming pretty comfortable and seems pretty stable. A couple of small glitches here and there but that's to be expected with a new release. Nothing yet that I haven't been able to work around.

Max .. .

Sounds like we're using Win 8 in exactly the same way. I've totally rearranged the start screen so that it contains every app, file and folder that I use frequently. I've also unpinned everything I don't use or use infrequently. It's nice to have some of the Metro Apps also instead of having to go to various web sites for news, market information, etc.

If you miss the Windows 7 Start Menu try using a program called Start8 from Stardock. It brings back the old look.
