Solved How to Remove AVG toolbar and search

I had this same issue on a client's PC yesterday and I uninstalled AVG (crapware, in my humble opinion) using CCleaner. I then install MSE and MalwareBytes Premium.

MSE and Malwarebytes are good but MSE doesn't work with 8.1 and so I am using Trend Micro that came with the computer and you can't use Malwarebytes with it. But I have both on my laptop win 7 and they work great.

I also can't use Firefox anymore because my computer is 64 bit but I use Waterfox and Chrome.

I have just re-installed win 8.1 pro, the only problem was AVG Internet Security 2014, it kept saying I had to re-install AFTER a new upgrade every time I put the pc on, it said the same thing, even though I had already done it - each time. So I downloaded AVG Removal Tool and it cleared the lot out, then I re-installed it and its fine now.

I am also running malwarebytes pro, and this is fine alongside AVG in 8.1 Pro.

As I had to go out last night, I initiated Windows Defender, until this morning when I fixed AVG.

AVG removal tool did not uninstall it from my FF, it's still there but set to "Never Activate".

thats strange, mine did the un install, then suggested I reboot to remove the remainder?? As soon as it was rebooted and running, I reinstalled AVG. It has just proved its worth too. I was going to install bit torrent and AVG reported that it was riddled with bugs, naming them as conduit, candy and others. It then proceeded to remove the download.

But, but, but, I never used AVG anything at all, this one snuck on on me somehow and I'm pretty careful when installing things. It's staying there since FF v 19.0. Keep updating but even when I reinstalled FF it stuck there like super glued. It's doing nothing since it is disabled. Can't find it in about:config or in registry.

When I install anything I click on custom install, if available; thats where all those nasty little swines can be unticked. I go very slowly and read each screen to make sure I read it right.

If you have problems uninstalling anything try iobit uninstaller, it does a power scan afterwards to make sure nothing is left in the registry, and if there is, it lists it for you to tick and remove.

But do custom install and watch out for the little already ticked boxes, it tries to install Advanced System Care into your machine too. Its bug free and free and does a decent job of cleaning but unless you want it, untick it.

Yeah, a lot of that stuff floating around, all hawking of all things more freeware, yuck. Revo Uninstaller has a feture where you can install SW thru it and then it can clean up after even better but I keep forgetting to use it. Not getting younger, you know and am not a spring chicken either.

nor me. I can retire this year if I want. Things like toolbars etc can be uninstalled in the browser settings, click on toolbars and delete them.

It's not a real problem as it is disabled and it would not activate but just sits there

Between Revo & CCleaner These unwanted crapwares should be easily gotten rid of.

OK try this:

Freebie program called Toolwiz Care

Open Security

Plug in Manager

Look for the relevant entry and ask program to delete it by clicking remove selected plug in

There is also another program, not quite relevant called Ad Block, it goes into the browser as a plug in and stops ALL ads from web pages, including Facebook etc. It is a freebie but the person who wrote it asks for donations as its his full time job now. I had to add my own sites as good to go because it hides banners too! Select relevant browsers for it to be installed in, it can handle all the major ones.

I honestly hate AVG it just plagues your computer I'm trying to figure out how to keep it off of mine, Sometimes I go through periods where I don't have norton, Preferably they only last about a few months but still If I can avoid AVG at all costs I do, Plus* I dont' believe in any kind of freeware, +++++ I do have a question though however, I'm wondering what is this malwarebytes pro thing?

It scans your computer for malware. I works well and is fast... but I can't use it because it isn't compatible with my security which is Trend Micro.

I'm trying to figure out how to keep my computer safe from viruses and all those um, like ad's that get installed when you install something you shouldn't like I got this pop up recently that said upgrade your free flash or something like that something told me not to click it but I did and then I got like all this avg rubbish, and my search pages were changed, so here I am all freaked out because i know once you get avg your screweed! your computer will go haywire.. I'm like I need to get schooled on this and quick because I don't plan on dropping $75 on tech support to get some computer rubbish resolved. Plus it does take a while. But What I find really interesting is that when I call tech support for a Gateway, I get a person from Asar Who tells me they can't help me...

Wouldn't relay on customer support, they don't know how much you know and what else what else is on your system that may be related to your problem. Only half way solution is if they can connect and take over your system. To let somebody loose on my system and even to pay for it is not in my books, no way.
I know from personal experience how difficult it is to help somebody over the phone, even if I know them and maybe remember something about their system. Most of the time it's easier to go there and fix it than to try to explain things. I make sure they see what I'm doing and explain why and what so they may learn something.
