How happy are you with the Q6600? I have a Dell with nearly the same configuration as yours - but the Q6600 disappointed me. Only video editing is a bit faster than on my duo core HP desktop and it is a lot slower than my laptop with an i7 740QM. Note: I have SSDs for Windows7 on all of them.

I am happy with the Q6600 for the moment as it is the fastest computer ATM and makes the single core Athon 64 in the Compaq look like road kill but when I build my new Sandy bridge computer with the 2nd gerneration I7 processor the Q6600 will seem to perform like the Athon 64.

You are probably right. I notice the difference already with my Vaio laptop - and that has only an i7- 740QM.

I'm going this way too. My Q6600 is a great performer and I love it, but my next Core i7 build will make it seems my crap laptop.

I would like to build a six-core CPU rig w/ 24 gigs of 2.2+GHZ DDR3, two 256 GB SSDs (raid 0) for system and a 2TB SATA3 HD for storage, plus a pair of next gen HD78xx crossfired. I'll need to save a lot of money in the next months to build it.

I have 2. See specs for this i7 rig I built last year. I also have an older rig with a Q6600, Asus P5Q Pro, 8800 GTS and 4 gig of RAM.
That lives in my bedroom and I use it mostly as a media pc, watching movies, TV, listening to music etc.
It came in very handy when I had hardware and software problems a few weeks ago as I was able to get online for advice on SevenForums.
Also helped to avoid Disconnection Anxiety Syndrome whilst I waited 4 weeks for my PSU to be RMAd:D
