When you install FF, it offers to sync with IE settings, cookies etc. As IE is deeply integrated in the system and depends on Internet settings and that affects a lot of stuff throughout.

you know, I cant ever recall FF asking to sync. So, if it does, tick or not? As far as I recall, it asks to import bookmarks, but nothing else?

I sync only Bookmarks with Favorites For IE because I keep backup for Favorites for convenience only. I also keep a "clean" set of favorites ( with only common sites ) for transferring to other peoples computers. Find that easier because links in Favorites folder can be easily added or deleted and customized. Unfortunately FF does not import them nicely and have to be sorted later.
Why don't you try a portable version of FF, it will not mix with IE or other version of FF.

Doesn't need to be on the stick. Make a folder on HDD for it and make a shortcut for it's exe anywhere you want. Just like with any portable program. I always do that when new version comes out so I can try it first and see if I like it. Actually, i like all kinds of portable programs. They do not write in registry or make a mess of the system if something goes wrong, also easy to remove or transfer somewhere else, wish all the programs are like that.

I have it installed 29.01 - strange config; where are the toolbars? I likes my toolbars. I have searched settings and cannot find what is easy in other browsers. Up to now I have not had that damned window come up but also I did not click to copy across IE bookmarks.

Ugh, no idea about tool bars, hate that stuff, have only 22" monitor and those things can take half of the screen. I'm old school so i use only Menu Bar. Try that thingy that looks like 3 horizontal bars in the top right corner and Customize option. I only know some people are complaining about Add-ons toolbar being removed. I like most of the screen to be for content and F11 is my favorite button.

by toolbars I meant the menu bar plus all options as in IE. Seems FF now group what options there are in customise but at least I found a few I wanted. I have also given it one add on - adblock for FF.

Menu bar you can get by right clicking next to last tab.

found the tweaks I want, and just made it default. No sign yet of that compatibility darn pop up.

I recently switched to Firefox since Chrome was getting laggy. Loving it so far. (I love how both browsers adapted to the color of my taskbar)

I must admit that, so far, the 29 version of FF is much better than the previous 3 or 4 versions. And I am no longer getting the damned annoyed checking compatibility pop up

True to the old habit of mine, I downloaded portable version of 30.0 RC2 just to try it first. Didn't see much difference from 29.01. I'm still hoping for a better Bookmarks system specially when imported from IE.
