We will handle that. I recommend that you try this HDD and then test the old one with the utility I gave you. I also warmly recommend running a test with HD Tune software

Alright so I have the new system up and running... one problem. I can't boot into it while the old HDD is connected.

Remove the old one. There is obviously an error on it. It's damaged. I've had a case like this in the past.

You could try using Linux and doing it from there or connecting it via USB using the adapter. Maybe it will work. If it doesn't, I'd say that you have to leave it to a pro.

Alright, downloading the Ubuntu ISO right now, will slam it onto a disc and live boot. Will update soon, let you know if it'll let me boot xD

Well I was able to boot into Ubuntu and copy over all my important files. May not have solved the problem, but I guess it was a workaround huh?

Also, any useful software I can use in Ubuntu to check the state of my old hard drive?
