Unfortunately a new problem has arrived..... okay so I start the computer, bow the OS's BSOD is there for like half a second, then it vanishes and the PC reboots. Goes into automatic repair, stays there for ages and then the screen just goes blue.

I then boot from my Win8 flashdrive, and it takes around 8 minutes to load before I can do anything. Any who, about to try out the tutorial you posted earlier. I assume it'll be okay to do it from the boot disk, even though the tutorial states do it from the automatic repair? Oh the headaches this thing has caused me

Another update, I click on "Repair your computer" and nothing happens :/

Try the boot disk then.

That's what I mean. I booted from the boot disk and it hangs for quite some time, and eventually shows itself. I clicked on "Repair your computer", many, many times and not a single response came from the window. So I clicked on "Install now" just to test a theory, and it opened right away, but is frozen on "setup is now starting". Even the loading rings animations are frozen.. :/

Hmmm... Could it be that your HW is failing?

I had that theory, but all my hardware, apart from a secondary Hard drive & the GFX is less than 5 months old. I'll disconnect the drive and card and run from on board storage, see what I get. Will update in one moment

After multiple tests, it's still doing the exact same thing. I'll unplug the os and leave the other 2 plugged in, and try to boot the boot disk

Well this is never good news.... boot disk ran absolutely fine.... maybe my hard drive is on its way out...

Guess I'm going to need a new hard drive huh?

I would like to ask though, should I not have heard some form of clicking noise? The previous 2 hard drives that died on me, both clicked long before they died.

That was my suspicion Not necessarily. Could you burn this onto a disc and boot up from it to test your HDD (This is not a definitive test)

Whilst I'm out I'll buy some discs and a new hard drive. Seems like it's handy to have spare discs

I think I may need to find my win7 OEM and setup dual boot. Would be much easier if there is a next time

Don't buy a new HDD yet! Buy some discs, not just one.

Well I bought a 2tb hard drive and 10 re-writable discs... too late

I'm currently installing Windows 8 on a 750gb partition on the 2tb. I'm basically doing a refresh, as (hopefully) I can recover all my important files from the previous harddrive. I don't mind re installing programs as they're easily redownloadable. It shouldn't be hard to switch activation over to the new OS, will it? It was a full install disc, not an upgrade or OEM.
