Malwarebytes found the following folder hidden in windows and I have instructed it to delete it, hopefully permanently.

C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\PREMIEROPINION

I assume this has been the cause of the channel157 etc adware. Maywarebytes found nothing else.

Yah, that's where it would have been. Looks like you had something called "Opinion Spy" and THAT's what wold have been doing the Popups.

Apparently it infects MACOS as well.

The first place I checked - control panel programs & Features - not listed.

It would not be, it's MALware.

Notice how it says in the article to simply delete it's folder, it gets installed with no uninstaller, or any other evidence that it had been installed.

you're article says it can be removed via add/remove - so the article is wrong them?

Just checked Task manager - start - up services, the folder premieropinion is still there but labelled stopped, so much for being deleted, but no deletion option in task manager.

It may be a hidden service. Well, the thing now is to see if there are any popups. So, give it a day, see if it happens. Then I'll look at the article again, there was another way to get rid of the remains of it. I think the "Delete folder" solution was for MACOS, so I misread it. I don't see how the program can run without it's gunk executables, post back here right away if you get a popup. Make me a screenshot of the way it originally appears.

will do, just found in iobit malware fighter in quarantine a load of premier files, so deleted them.

The Free version is good too.

Had a google search and found a suggestion for a superkiller prog, so downloaded and install it, and as soon as I clicked on the icon to run it, it said your 14 days trial is over - un-install and bye bye. going to try yours now. Another way I have thought of is, in Iobit is an option to change Win 8 start up to standard menu, that way the folder should be visible, the process is reversible, so might try that later.

Running scan now, thanks. I think I need to review my protection options. Currently on Kaspersky Internet Suite 2013 for another 200 days. What do you think of running Microsoft Security Essentials and a paid program like adaware? Kasperksy let this damn thing in, and about to do another full KIS scan after adaware.

I use the Paid versions of Avast & AdAware.
Like I said, AdAware shuts off anything it has that would conflict with Avast.
It still roots out adware & spyware.

I never used MSE so I cannot comment on it.

they all let things in ,just read the list of the top 10 antivirus 's none are 100% ,so i suggest just stay with what you have and make sure they are always up to date ,just my opinion

I use Microsoft Security essential ,malwarebytes, Spywareblaster ,and CCleaner ,to keep my system clean,having said that i don't use my computer for much more than going to forums like this one ,and downloading software ,MSE has let in a few things ,but i usually kill it before its does any damage .

Trying AdAware might solve his problem.

What he "already has" has allowed the virus in...

it is also on a major go slow, getting near to throwing HDD in bin and installing a virgin one!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrr had to reboot just now just to clear - here we go again .

didn't mean for them not to try your suggestion ,just meant for them to keep Kaspersky because it as good as the rest .

same reason as mine maybe ,I stop them before they get active ~

if anyone one virus was 100% at everything it does ,there would only be one antivirus program ,and we all would own it .good luck ,have a nice day, not trying to pick a fight ,just sharing my opinion

And that is how i fix[i repair computer as a partime job sort of ] the real nasty ones ,format and reinstall windows ,takes a lot less time and cost less for my customers .
