Can't Use My Own Pictures

I laughed because I had already stated that I can't use my photos. There is nothing funny. This is very upsetting. And when helped I always add to your rep. I appreciate all the help. A 71 yr old like me could never find the answers any other way. But I'm not proficient in computers and messing with some things scare me.

Yes it can scare you if you keep telling yourself that over and over. Think back to the first time you drove a car or road a bike without training wheels. Scary wasn't it? A lot more than working on computers.

Something is causing your photos to be blacklisted. At this point I would probably reach out to a local photographer or local mom & pop computer store to work with you, to find out what exactly is behind this issue of all your photos being interpreted as unlawful copyright.

I'm a writer and in the middle of writing a novel. I'd hate to screw up my computer and not be able to finish it. I had my computer completely cleaned a few months ago by a reputable computer place. Cost $100 but this is the first problem I've had since. I'll try them again.

We do not always mean to come off hard on people. But sometimes we have to treat others like an adult would treat their child when working through something. That means grabbing their attention and trying to stay on track. We can all laugh at the end about this. But right now I take stuff like this, in helping others as a serious matter.

I have been around computers for 38 years, which would be when I was 12. I owe my father a lot for my experience in this field. I am very passionate when it comes to helping others, and feel jaded when those I try to help, treat it as if one or the other is not helping in the matter.

Barbee the very first thing I would suggest is keeping a backup of the drive, in case something happens. Set your editor to save copy every 5 min's. I use Clonezilla for my Linux & Windows machines, with the copy saved to a NAS. You should never keep just one copy of files on the hard drive, keep a second copy on a cloud drive or USB pocket drive.

I have it on external drive, but if my computer is broken,... I can't use it. I'm very frustrated. I'm going to put this aside until tomorrow when I have more patience. I don't mind paying a tech but I hate having to unplug everything and cart it and then have to plug things back. I will if I have to though.

I do not know how close to Watertown you are. But my brother is retired Army in that area, and can assist you on your matter. His webpage is zolltech.com.

The problem is trying to deduce what is really the underlying issue, then get to why you are having the other. As for breaking the OS, it can be done if your machine gets infected, dropped or kicked. But day to day use will not cause problems.

Making a backup of the files is a good thing. But as you said, if the system goes belly up, that does not help a lot.

May I suggest that you make an image of your system to an external drive and repeat that every week. With an image you can always recover unless the hardware breaks. But even in the event of a broken disk you can recover - with a new disk of course. Here is a little tutorial I made to help you do that:

Thanks. Everyone tells me to back up, but you can only back up files, not programs and settings. Thanks. I do have a laptop, but it's old and I can't type well on it. The keys are too close together or something. Today I updated on it and got BING. Ugh. So I just put it away. Too much frustration for one day.

I don't know what I'd do without Windows 8 and 7 forums.

BTW would restoring to a previous date help?

Shift+F8 (thought u were in win7 first reply)before the splash screen should give you a boot choice screen with multiple choices, one of which is Safe Mode with Networking. This mode only loads the files needed to run Windows and the Network. No program files are loaded. This lets you see if it is adware that is blocking your access to the files. I have seen this many times to be caused by adware and use Spybot Search and Destroy to remove the culprit.
You can also go in the task manager in windows 8 and select File, run new task, type msconfig and press enter. At the top a row of tabs. The boot tab will let you select a box for safe boot mode, and then at the bottom of the list you can select Network. Then restart the machine. When done checking if you can open a jpg, go back in task manager and file, run new task, msconfig, and uncheck the safe boot box, when you restart now it will be in normal mode.

If you make images as described in the tutorial, you backup everything - the OS, the settings, the programs, the data, etc.. If you have to restore it, the system will be exactly the way it was the minute you took the image.

You might want to note that the procedures in that video is for Mac OS. I assume you have Windows 8, seeing that you posted here. So yeah, those procedures would seem foreign to Windows owners.

  • With that, what size are the files you're trying to post?
  • What is PSP7?
  • And are you sure those images are yours?

Paint Shop Pro. I do have 8.1 and this started suddenly. They are definitely mine from either my camera or ads I made on Paint Shop for my books. I'll see if it will let me post one. Sometimes I can post it one time and then the next time... it says I need permission. If I save the photo under a different name sometimes it will work too. OK now they aren't even showing up in my folder. See picture. following

Might be clutching at straws here, but ...
None of the pictures displayed are showing a file type extension, which makes it hard to know what they really are.
Are you sure you're trying to upload jpeg's and not psp or pspimage files (which would not be supported) ?
I say that because the 7 showing in the icons suggests that.
Are you able to display the file extension type by doing the following in the ribbon ?

extensions.png

That would help us dismiss that scenario.
