Solved Is anyone on here happy with windows 8?

The only problem I have right now when I run Win8 from the USB stick is that it kills my Win7 BCD. I have to figure that one out.

I'm not a fan but something has just dawned on me... Metro = Interactive screen saver.

It's ok if you just want to quickly access your email, play music read your facebook update and give the kids a game to play but for anything productive, you will end up chucking Metro away in favor of the desktop.

Now if MS was to have marketed Win8 as a Win7 upgrade with the interactive screen saver that you can use to interact with your phone7 for extra funtionality and have the option to turn it off, then I would definitely be a fan!

Well ok, I know it is not but I just can't see me using it for much else. I guess I fall in to the camp of those who find it more of a hindrance.

For anything productive Metro does not serve much of a purpose to me, it is just an over bloated start menu and its apps don't really offer anything other than consume information or play the odd silly mobile game. If you try to launch a windows program you are sent back to the desktop. The last part I like.

What I did not like was the lack of a proper start button/menu that has now become metro. I have since put on a 3rd party program to get this back and will hope that in the future when they implement animated tiles for apps, I could leave the computer running with Metro on screen feeding information and have quick access to a few useful apps, effectively using Metro as an interactive screensaver. Once I need to do something productive I can return back to the desktop.

Of course a little more customisation might be needed but still, that is how I would like to use it.

Hello to all,
From my limited personal experience and prejudices. Now that I have a system image stored on a second drive I am tickled for the most part. Having taken Brink's and other's advice and set the start page up with the programs I use and deleting all the apps that I can. Grouping them into logical groups. It doesn't make a terrible start button substitute. I've tried all the start buttons programs and at least until they function like W7's perfectly, I find it easier just to pop back to the start page and click on what I want to run. On the taskbar are the programs I want faster access to just like in W7. So I guess I am happy, and the main reason is I perceive it being quicker than the Ubuntu it replaced. It will probably be priced out of my range/value area when it hits the street, and I'll go back to Ubuntu.

You are right Windows 7 and 8 are faster than Ubuntu, at least on my systems

Call me crazy, but for at least a couple years I've been of the opinion that MS's best operating system was Windows Mobile, it supported running multiple apps, including word processing and pdf viewing plus cut and paste when Iphone purchasers were still tickled pink that they could swish their album art left and right (without being able to do any of the aforementioned really useful stuff).
So do I like Win8? Yes, it's like the best aspects of windows mobile, plus the functionality of a desktop PC.

Before Win8, I was running win 7 touch pack on a tablet pc. It was ok, but not as useful in tablet mode as I would have liked. You couldn't use touch as a curser most of the time because fingers are too clunky to click little items. Sure there's a stylus, but why bother when you've got a track pad? Windows8 changes all that though. As a tablet user, I've felt like Xmas came early since installing Win8. I do use Metro, including live tiles for calendar (which natively syncs to Google Calendar, does anyone else think that's totally awesome/a not entirely expected surprise?) and mail. Ok, so the mail app isn't that great. But man o man IE10 Metro is the best touch centered browser I've used on a PC. The on screen keyboard is also amazing -- I write in English and Spanish and switching between them is just two taps away. And Snap? Heck yeah, man! it's awesome to be able to toggle between apps at the flick of a finger, and being able to view and manipulate two at a time on a tablet is a totally sweet feature.

Down sides? Yes, there are downsides. I still haven't found a graphics driver that properly supports windows 8 and that causes a few of the apps to crash or cause a BSOD. Not fun. But being a lifelong Windows user, I'm just glad that the BSOD is followed by a super fast restart. (That issue is being dealt with under the gaming subheading at http://www.eightforums.com/gaming/5...s-crash-screen-res-graphics-driver-issue.html)

Have I installed Win8 on my desktop pc? No, it doesn't seem worth the hassle without touch. Would I pay money to use it on my tablet? Absolutely.

Downloading the devloper preview and going to try windows 8 for the first time after i make another partition. Looking at videos I wasn't to happy about the metro but i'm willing to give it a go. Will give back feed back on win 8 and tell everyone what I think about it. Anyways i've really liked windows 7 and been on the sevenforums for a good long time but will give 8 a chance.

When you use the desktop, you'll feel like you're in Windows 7, except that they forgot to instal the Start button. When you use the Metro, you'll be in a whole new world.

Well, it's different - new isn't the word I would use.

It is designed to ensnare people into the MS clouds.

The clouds are where the future lies and MS are determined to get a big chunk of your money.

Well installed it, its ok I guess don't mind the metro just hate the features taken away from windows 7 like the start bar with all my little tools which i'm still trying to figure out to find. Got the custom start menu I read in the tutorial to work but this should have been implanted into windows 8 by default. So far my main complaint is desktop interface that looks like aero got many features taken away that they should have left. If they fix this then I might have a different opinion of windows 8 so far I give it a 3/5 just for that one problem. Needs a lot of improvement if it wants to get the more techy people to use it instead of windows 7. So far my fav windows os's is in this order. 1.windows 7 2.windows xp 3.windows 8 and vista i'm not even going to list because of the blue screens. If Microsoft can improve this and add some nicer features then possibly they can get me to like windows 8 more.

M1GU31, it's good to have you onboard, and I'll tell you why. It's one thing to criticize a Windows system or part of a system, and I appreciate the fact that you don't criticize people. By the way, how did you come up with your screen name?

I chose this screen name because my first name being Miguel. So I wanted something more unique then Miguel because there's are millions of Miguels in the world. So I thought to my self why not make a unique name and replace some of the letters with numbers so I came up with M1GU31. I felt it was very unique and I liked it so i stuck with it. That's how I came up with my screen name.

Yes I try to judge mainly on the capabilities and features of a product instead of blaming someone like others might say that it's Microsoft fault and just give a bunch of negative comments with out giving any useful feedback.Couple friends of mine I know are sort of one sided with windows 7 and still have one who still stuck in the windows xp age, oh jesus. Technically I don't think windows 8 is bad but just needs improvement and more features from windows 7 put back and a couple more nice features to include also.

I am among the people who criticize MS about this latest preview OS of MS. But seeing how it improved from WDP to WCP, I believe there will be a big surprise on its final release.
For the question, yes I am happy having new release of an OS, including this WCP while expecting MS keep making it better.
