    Watermark suddenly on desktop

When I booted my desktop this morning, the login screen background had changed and when the desktop appeared, I get the following watermark now: Windows 8.1 Pro with Media Center, Build 9600.

I checked the PC properties and it shows as Activated.

I also did two updates yesterday: KB2984006, and Update for Defender: KB2267602 (Definition 1.185.2808.0). When I rebooted after the updates, the old login screen background was still there and there was no watermark on the desktop.

Is this something I should be concerned about? If so, what do I need to run to provide additional info, or to remove the watermark?

    Hey Mark,

This may be able to hide it for you if it got triggered somehow.

Bink: Thanks for the link. According to the linked thread, what (was) showing on my desktop is the non-activated watermark. Problem is, I AM already activated. So, that watermark should not be showing.

Plus, when I rebooted a few minutes ago, the watermark now no longer shows.

But -- I will bookmark the link you gave so I have a way to deal with this if it shows up again.

Once again, the watermark suddenly appeared on the desktop -- and this was after applying umpteen Windows Updates this morning. So, I used the linked page, downloaded the registry file, ran it -- and the watermark vanished.

    Thanks again for the link.
