Hi, you can delete the contents of the C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder and run the DISM - Fixing Component Store Corruption in Windows 8 and you can also use Disk cleanup to delete old Windows update files.

    Good luck, werty

I couldn't get it to install last time - and this time it won't even complete downloading.....glad it's optional. Will just hide and forget.

Many thanks, I am running Dism /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth now (even when CheckHealt says everything is OK) , I will comment when finishes. I hope I don't need to wipe and reinstall Windows!

"The restore operation completed successfully. The component store corruption was repaired.
    The operation completed successfully."

So I install the update as usual right?

You have to restart Windows and then try to apply the update!

Update: If this doesn't work and you have Secure Boot enabled in Bios you can try to disable it and then try to install the update.

Many thanks, done it and still it fails with 800F0922. I am totally lost! My computer doesn't have UEFI nor Secure Boot.

I was told it maybe has to do with the recovery partition, yes, I don't have it, neither the netbook or the desktop but the netbook was fine.

I have problems running DISM Restore Health - it can't find the source files - but I have never tried deleting the contents of C:/Windows/SoftwareDistribution folder first - does that make a difference? FWIW, my SFC indicates "no integrity violations" each time I run it. DISM Scan Health indicates files are repairable.

Sorry to hear that. As a last resort you can reinstall Windows and make sure that the Recovery partition is created Clean Install - Windows 8. I also have a laptop with Windows 8 which cannot be upgraded to Windows 8.1 - all drivers are up to date (at least compatible with Windows 8.1 according to Microsoft) but it does not have Recovery partition installed so that may be the problem. I wouldn't even bother to try to install it - Windows 8 is enough stable and Windows 9 is coming out!

Good luck in the future, werty

I need some help in clarifying a couple of procedures, please. I first tried doing it myself, but still somewhat confused ---- nothing new for me LOL.

KB2982791 - I uninstalled this and replaced it with KB2993651 on 8/28. Do I need to uninstall 2993651 and reinstall. The lengthy article by MS has confused me re this update.

KB2975719 - Uninstall and then apply the new update, correct?

KB-2970228 and 2975331 weren't installed in the first rollout. I'm not sure how to proceed here.

KB2919355 - I have no idea what this is. It's listed under "more information" in the MS article....but this KB isn't listed on my Microsoft updates in HP.

    Thanks.
