Hi there
Source of this info please !!!
Still existing TechNet subscriptions will of course have access but what about the rest.
As far as WMC is concerned - that's LAST century's technology -- there are so many BETTER and alternative ways of handling Media playing etc that WMC is essentially a totally redundant piece of software. Things like Film service streaming or online TV weren't around when WMC was first launched - and these days who ever bothers to install TV cards etc in their computers.
Cheers

WMC - Unfortunately the infrastructure is not in place in many places to be able to take advantage of Film Services or On-line TV. I live in the UP of Michigan on the shores of Lake Superior. I live in a log-cabin in the middle of the woods and the only option I have is Satellite for TV or Internet. The problem with Satellite Internet service is a policy known as FAP (Fair Access Policy). This policy establishes an equitable balance in Internet access for all. The service provider assigns a download threshold that limits the amount of data that may be continuously downloaded within specified time periods. Subscribers who exceed this limit will experience a temporary reduction of speed. When I was with Hughesnet that limit was 256mb within a 24 hour period. Exceed that limit and your speed reduces to less than dial-up for the next 24 hours. With my current provider it's 15gb per month which is better, but if you exceed that your speed is reduced for the remainder of the month. So for me having a TV card in my PC attached to my DishTV Satellite settop box is the best answer.
I just registered and I have no idea how to post a question. I'm just replying to one because that's all I can do. How do I ask a questions? Thank you.

I've had no problems adding Media Center after a clean install of 8 or 8.1.

After 8 it's no problem of course but how can you add WMC after a true clean install of 8.1, clean install not a clean upgrade install which is different. No going through the store at all, not burning the DVD during the install from the store.
Contrary to popular belief it is possible to perform a completely clean install of 8.1 from the "right" DVD, not the DVD you can make during the store install. But no way to add WMC after a true clean "non store" install and I've read around on this, there are many others with the same complaint.
If you are going to make a statement then why not show how it can be done?

Pretty simple actually, clean install 8.1 Pro with my TechNet ISO, then go to Add Features and type in my MC key. Once the update is finished I just click activate windows if its not already activated. I've done it on my desktop and laptop.

Yes I had no option to add Media Center in Add Features after the clean install. I've seen the same complaint all over the place so maybe it's an upgrade key problem. With the 9600 DVD this is what I got.
Not that it really matters because I just re-installed Win 8, activated, added Media Center then used the 8.1 store link to clean install 8.1 and imaged the install etc.
I was using an upgrade key so that might have been the problem not sure but for 40 bucks I'm not complaining.
