    The speculation begins:

In the meantime, Ballmer will continue as CEO and will lead Microsoft through the next steps of its transformation to a devices and services company that empowers people for the activities they value most."

Steve Ballmer's bench is empty: Who's next at the helm?

Who is going to replace him?

    Tami Reller?

Rumor has it William Shatner wants a shot at it. Last I heard they told him if he gets the position, he can have as many buttons on the armrest of his chair as he wants. Just don't go looking for a Start button. It aint happening.

I wouldn't bet on it. If MS are going to keep pushing out stuff the buyers don't want, the oems will take matters into their own hands.

the #1 pc maker in the world, Lenovo, will be shipping Pokki on new Windows 8 devices worldwide

This is pretty grim. Seems Lenovo know the buyers don't want what MS is pushing, so they are trying to ameliorate the horror and hopefully sell some pcs. I am not familiar with Pokki, looks like a bit of a halfway house, but it may be less repellent to potential buyers.

Well..the speculation of a successor will be a key topic - they really need some 'new' blood at Redmond.. someone dynamic like a Jobs (RIP) maybe - ironic they share the same first name..

I'm glad M$ shareholders had the balls to realise what's best for them going forward (and yes, I don't think this was a voluntary decision by Stevie)...

With all due respect of course...

Lenovo are acquiring the start menu replacement with the game arcade.from Pokki, I believe. Acer did it a while ago. It still needs an OS of course.(Windows 8/7?). The retailers could have extracted digits and done it yonks ago, with Classic or something similar.

I am not sure they were allowed to under the license conditions (?) - perhaps that has changed, or perhaps Lenovo don't care.

Sorry for the off topic ..but most OEM's realised the stupidity of the lack of a proper start button...
