I tried this onto a simple hard drive and it works great ( as did some time ago your similar article for windows ultimate in the Win 7 section ) ! Thanks! But i really want to put the VHD on my raid array. With your example the raid drivers have not been placed yet so i can only put the Win 8 VHD on the slow non raid drive.
I did try delaying my visit to command prompt and using diskpart until AFTER the raid drivers were installed. I created a few VHDs.
They were listed in the installation of Win 8 set up but the install program told me i could not choose these partions.
Hello Roe, and welcome to Seven Forums.

Is the message like the screenshot under step 10?

Have you already tried installing to the VHD anyways though?

    Hi Bring,

I have a backup of Windows 8 which I take before with acronis. And I want to load it to a VHD disk like we created like here.
It's seems simple instead of clean install (Step 10) I want to load my Acronis backup

For that I do this steps: In disk management I have attached the vhd file and than started it. After that i made a simple volume. Acronis see that volume but denied to use it as target disk

Also Acronis have convert option an acronis backup file to Windows backup file. If I convert my acronis backup to windows backup file can I load it to a VHD file as use WinRE?

Or do you now any working way?

    Hello Nonpasaran,

Sorry, but I do not believe a backup VHD would not work with this tutorial. The process of installing Windows 8 to the VHD as outlined in the tutorial is what allows the VHD to be bootable.

For what you are wanting to do, you might give this tutorial below a try to see if it may work or not for an existing Windows 8 VHD image file.

    Hope this helps.

Will there be a "reverse" tutorial for returing to Win 7 single boot

    Hi Shawn,

I've used the tutorial and have a dual-boot system on my laptop.

Since we will, at some time, have a pre-beta or beta Win 8, then how does one go about removing the Win 8 dual-boot setup?

Then there are probably those who for one reason or the other decide they no longer want the developer preview on their computer, then they will want a clean uninstall of the Win 8 developer preview.

Is a tutorial in the making to remove the Win 8?

    Hi again Shawn,

This was very useful method for Devoloper Preview but It looks don't Work for Consumer Preview
When click Next button step 10 a warning window appear and it says: This disk doesn't have enough space
(I created Dynamically Expanding VHD File as 25600 MB)

Now i will try again for 30 GB but i have no hope
Maybe you have any idea or trick
