Was it supposed to do that? I cant remember what that something else was (I had it posted to you a few min ago, but somehow the post didnt post). So should use the flash drive I have w/the saved settings or re-do the flash drive and after choosing the ISO file, then change it to FAT 32?
    Hello okstout,

Yeah, you would need to select the ISO file first, then select to use FAT32.

Yes, Rufus would be good to use in XP to create a UEFI USB for Windows 8.

    Dual boot - Win 7 Pro 64-bit and Win 8.1 Pro 64-bit

Mr. Brink - another excellent thread on eightforums.

    Questions:

    1) In addition to UEFI ON, must CSM be ON in the target computer in order to install Win 7 Pro 64-bit or Win 8 Pro 64-bit? Will the two Windows install if CSM is OFF?

    2) In my PC, the BIOS calls it "Enable Legacy ROMs", but that's the same as CSM, yes?

    3) In addition to the bare-bones Win 7 or 8 installation, my PC will need drivers from Dell, which I can download from Dell support. I suppose I could put those on folders in my USB. However, how exactly do I have them installed into the PC together with the Win 7 or 8?

    4) Or if I just have those driver folders in my USB and they're not installed together with the Win 7 or 8, how exectly do I install those drivers after? In each case, do I look for an .inf file and right-click it? What if there's more than one .inf file in a Dell driver folder?

    Thanks.

If you wanted to install them with UEFI then CSM needs to be enabled, and secure boot needs to be temporarily disabled until installation has finished.

Yep, they are the same setting.

When you download the drivers, they will be installation files. After Windows has finished installing, you would just need to run the driver installation files to install them.

found out I can NOT use rufus on a usb 2.0 flash drive in a usb 3.0. it gives error saying unable to partition the drive.

lucky I have 2 usb 2.0 ports on my system. and it worked.

And I hate usb 3.0 ports.

yeah the current 7-Zip can't open the .wimfor step 11 while the alpha can. It might be worth it to make a note of it in the tutorial.

    Hello Brink.

I just tried this technique to get past a problem installing the latest Windows 10 on a laptop with an MBR drive and no OS installed. WinTen insisted on a GPT partition. Booting from an 8GB (4GB was too small) FAT32 USB2 device did the trick, allowing me to delete partitions and install the OS. Thanks for your help.

    Windows 8 32bit

I use Windows 8 32-bit. What option should I use to create a usb to install Windows 8.1 64-bit with uefi? I read some stuff about bootsect and that I can't create a 64bit usb from 32bit windows. Also, will rufus install any 3rd party software with the windows installation?
