Sorry for the delay Brink but I've been trying to get my dvd drive working.
No, I had a Sony Vaio with Vista pre-installed.

Hello Henry, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Do you have a qualifying OS (XP SP3, Vista, or Windows 7) to be eligible for the Windows 8 upgrade copy as per the EULA?

If so, then as long as you legally purchase the Windows 8 upgrade, and do not have the qualifying OS activated (installed) anymore when you have the Windows 8 upgrade installed, then you will be good to go.

    Thank you for posting back.

What type of Windows 8 installation media did you use?

Was it the normal Windows 8 upgrade ISO through the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant, or some OEM or retail packaged copy?

So I don't have to install my copy of 7 first for this to work, and can i still apply the updates and use all the features also which step is better to use 5 or 6?

    Henry,

Nope. No need to install your Windows 7 first. It will be a clean install of Windows 8 with all features available for that edition.

    Glad to help.

Either step should work, so it's up to you, or if one doesn't work the other should.

Apologies again Brink for my tardiness in replying.
I re-downloaded the Win 8 upgrade iso (I originally upgraded online) and put that iso file on a usb stick and booted from that.

    No apologies needed.

Well, that's nice that it activated right off like that. Thank you again.

Hi For the first time I have purchased an upgrade instead of the full version. It installed ok, but I am having one or two issues. For some reason, although in power options I have it set to 'shut down' on the power off, it shuts down then sometimes within a few minutes or in a few hours (during...
