Windows update broken after migration to SSD

Hello all I'm new to the forum and I like to say a warm hello and ask for help.

I migrated from from hdd to ssd on my Samsung series 7 laptop today and everything has gone very well with the exception of windows updates which are now non functioning. I have tried both the DISM and sfc/scannow procedures as well as numerous other possible solutions I have come across during the day.

I am now truly at a loss as to how to fix the issue, the error code coming up is 80070490. If you can help I will be in your debt.

Did you successfully run Dism & Sfc ? If so

1. Control Panel->TroubleShooting->View All->Windows Updates->Advanced and Run As Administrator
2. Delete everything under: C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download
3. Try to run Windows Updates again

I had previously tried the troubleshooter with no positive result, however the software distribution folder was empty. Thanks for the advice.
