so basically i got the download version of windows 8 professional 64bit (through dreamspark) and upgraded my windows 7 about a week ago...everything seemed to be good and i was getting used to the new windows but there was one problem namely that when i put the computer to sleep and then turned it back on, it always crashed and restarted...so i read up on it and the main thing i got was to upgrade my graphics adaptar (nvidia geforce gtx 460m)...so i went to the nvidia website and sure enough there was an upgrade available which i downloaded and got onto installing (probably should have uninstalled previous version but then again i've done the same thing before when i installed new versions on windows 7)...about midway through the installation i got an error about C:\temp (don't remember the exact error) and the installation seemed to get stuck...for some reason i thought it would be clever to delete the file and so did so but made no difference and the installation stayed stuck for about 30-40mins after which i decided enoughs enough and restarted the computer...thats when the problems started, it got onto the blue windows logo with the spinning wheel thing underneath but just gets stuck
so then i decided it will be easy enough to get into safe mode and install the driver from in there...how wrong i was...upon trying to get into safe mode it says loading windows files with please wait... at the bottom and loads some file but get stuck at the following one:
Loaded: \windows\system32\DRIVERS\disk.sys
i've no idea what comes after that but that seems to be the problem as it isn't loading
i tried safe mode, safe mode with networking and safe mode with command prompt all with same outcomes
i then tried last know good configuration option but for some reason that shows the windows 7 glowing logo with starting windows underneath but again stays stuck
i then tried to get into automatic repair mode by pressing shift+f8 which shows the blue windows logo with preparing automatic repair underneath and after a couple of seconds the spinning wheel thing appears on top of the writing but again nothing happens
and just to confirm that nothing apart from the charger was attached with the laptop for the above
as i installed windows off of an external hard drive, i tried connecting the hard drive to the laptop and changed the setting in BIOS so the the harddrive was first priority...i can see the light on HD flashing whilst the blue windows logo appears on the screen but the flashing stops after a couple of seconds and the spinning wheel appears underneath the logo but then again nothing after that
so i've no idea what to do now...i've over 350GB of data on there and no external backups, i mean i thought it would be an easy fix at first but apparently not...what can i do to resolve this as quickly as possible??
