Windows Installation Issue - Laptop wont boot any media

Hello,

I have a laptop thats stuck in an infinite grey screen or automatic repairing screen. The laptop is a Samsung NP300E5C-A0AUS and was loaded with Windows 8.1. I've created a Windows 8.1 installation disk with Microsofts media creation tool in hopes of using it to repair or reinstall windows.

It brings me as far as to the "Press any Key to boot to CD/DVD" screen but pressing a key does not work. I've tried using another USB keyboard (no ps/2 slots) which has not helped.

I've tried the same with a windows 7 boot disk and it got post the press any key phase but the laptop quickly froze, ive tried several times but it keeps freezing a few seconds after pressing an any key.

Ive tried Hirens boot CD to test the laptops hardware but it will not boot either. All these media have been tested on my main machine and work.

-SECURE boot has been disabled.
-Boot priories have been set in BIOS.

Any suggestions?

Hope you've enabled legacy in BIOS too?

If that didn't work, Just a suggestion:
Could you try make UEFI bootable USB with Windows 8.1 ISO using Media creation tool, then boot from it? There is a media creation tutorial in here, you could go through it for help.

I don't think disabling Secure boot, enabling legacy is needed in this case.

I also agree with Visruth's suggestion. Generally a USB install media won't ask for pressing any key to boot. However USB media created with the help of "Rufus" may ask for pressing a key as "Rufus" will use custom MBR instead of standard MS NT6 boot code. So i would suggest using either "DISKPART" or "WinToFlash" to create the media.

Both the installation media (USB flash drive and DVD) can be booted in both UEFI and Legacy BIOS boot mode.

2. Clean install Windows 8.1 from USB/DVD.

Normally, you do not need to change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings, for example, the boot order of drives, enable Legacy BIOS boot mode, or disable Secure Boot. So, do not change the UEFI firmware (BIOS) settings.

- Connect your Windows 8.1 USB flash drive or insert your Windows 8.1 DVD.
- Restart the computer.
- Press the correct key to enter the boot menu (see this link for help). Or, if you have a Lenovo computer, you can also press the NOVO button when the computer is turned off and then select "Boot Menu".
- Select your USB/DVD from the boot menu.

I just had a similar issue with my Samsung laptop 2 months ago. Can you get into the bios? If not you have a corrupt bios. I'll have to look around my one drive to find the thread that helped me repair it. The Series laptops have a ton of bios issues sadly.

Edit: Just saw you were able to get into the bios from the OP. Like everyone else said make your own flash drive.

Actually just a thought see if your bios needs an update.

I just created a bootable USB drive with Wintoflash with windows 8. It did not work and continued to the samsung loading screen like it had previously.

There does not seem to be any legacy option in the BIOS. I can get in the BIOS.

Think it could be a HDD issue?

Still seems similar to my issue. I could not boot off of any USB device but DVDs worked. A bad hard drive would not prevent you from booting to an external source. Try to burn a DVD and see if that works. If so you will need to upgrade your bios.

Ive already burned several CD's and DVD's and nothing seems to work.

Seems the BIOS update for the laptop is only applicable as an .exe application. Dont think Id be able to boot from this.

UPDATE:

I removed the harddrive and the laptop was able to enter the Windows 8 setup menu. Maybe this means the HDD is faulty?

Tried booting on my tower with this as a secondary HDD to diagnose it. Cant even boot with main main drive, gets stuck on Windows Starting screen. With the HDD removed it works fine.
