Windows Defender not updating automatically

How do I set Windows Defender to update automatically? There doesn't appear to be any settings within the programme, although I could have sworn that I clicked automatic once upon a time. Any how, every now and then I get a pop up message from the tray asking me to update it. I would rather it just updated itself and left me alone.

Windows/Microsoft Update would automatically pull latest updates for Defender, because that is how Defender pulls the updates from Microsoft's servers.

Thanks, I have updated my Windows Update settings to install automatically. Hopefully it doesn't download that update again that made my Desktop and File Explorer unresponsive due to a certain file type being there, can't remember which one now, it was a video file I believe.

A lot of people set it to manual, because they do not want Windows 10 to install, along with drivers. You can tell Windows to not update Drivers in System in the Control Panel, then Advanced System Settings, then Hardware tab, then Device Installation Settings.
