Windows Defender Icon remains white ???

yet neither work i cant drag/drop the file from a working copy of defender that file over either very very strange lol

I've been trying to replicate this (and failed!). But how about trying this.
Right click Defender in file manager, and pin it to the taskbar.
Right click the taskbar icon and select , fro Windows defender, Properties.
Select "change icon", and select one of the options (hopefully you will have a choice of 4). Select the main one and, when finished, unpin it. This is a very vague approach, but anything goes at this stage.

unsolvable ? sigh this is such a stupid issue i wonder wtf is causing this..I mean if the file was ****ed wouldnt sfc scan at least pick it up whether it could fix it or not as an error at min ? in all the years using windows i have never seen something as strange as this without a fix that would work

The only option that I know of at this point that should fix it would be either a reset or refresh of Windows 8.

However, just for fun if you like, you might see if adding a new administrator account, and see if it's still like that when you sign in to the new account. If not, then you could use the new account instead of a reset or refresh if you like.

Hi,
Can you open Folder Options and turn off "Hide protected Operating System Files" and navigate to the folder as shown in the picture and look at the desktop.ini to see if you have an entry for Windows Defender ? apparently the value is -1000 instead of -100 as stated in earlier post.

This folder along with the WINX folder involving some kind of hash algorithm ie. you just cannot copy the shortcut here and expect it to work.
