windows 8 wont register

I bought 3 upgrade copys of 8 when the offer first came out I also took advantage of the free media centre on my pc and laptop I was doing updates on my laptop today and noticed it says its not registed when I try to put the product key I have for the copy for my laptop it says its valid but when it trys to register then says not for the edition I have im guessing media centre has stuffed this up somehow maybe because I used the same email for both how do I fix this

Use the media centre key, not the Windows 8 upgrade key.

That's what I had been using but now I'm getting the message it's already being used on another computer after months of using it

Contact MS support/activation (see the Windows 8 link). Looks like you will need to do telephone activation.

In case you are not aware, the Media Center upgrade keys can only be used on one PC. You can't use the same product code on more than one PC. They are also likely tied to the PC they were originally activated on. Also, if I remember correctly, you only got one Product code per e-mail address. Asking for a second code would just get you the same code you already got though that e-mail address.

It looks like he got free media center for two machines, but apparently used the same key on the two machines he wanted media center on. So, I am thinking MS support/activation (i.e., Contact MS support/activation) might help him out--if he takes things to the point of talking/explaining to a person what the problem is. Agree???

thanks for the reply's I was aware of the keys could only be used on one pc that's why I made sure I thought I got two numbers hence the thought it may have been a problem with the same email address I was just wondering if anyone else had the same problem and if there was anyway to fix it with out reinstalling as the laptop is an pain in the ass lol but I will ring them first also a pain

There was a long thread when the free keys came out. There were a few comments where other users had similar issues. When the RP was on the go you could use the MC key that was around on multiple PC's. Microsoft changed that when RTM version of Windows 8 was finally released. They also limited you to one product code per e-mail address. Some didn't realizes this and didn't notice that the keys they got from that e-mail address were all identical. Then they used them on multiple PC's and wondered why some PC's didn't activate. There is a trick you can use to roll back to 8 Pro without having to reinstall. This is for windows 7 but can be made to work for Windows 8. UNAWAVE - Downgrade Ultimate to Home Premium or Professional All you need is for some one to post the values for 8 Pro. I'm only running 8 core. I'd call Microsoft first and see what they say.
