Hi all,
I am new to this forum and I'm in a bit of a dilemma in that I have a 2 yearold computer that is running the Pre-release version of Windows 8 (Build 8400)It also ran the Preview version of Windows 8. Both version ran flawlessly. Inchecking Windows 8 assistant I have only 6 issues and they all concern softwareand 1 hardware issue. The hardware issue is that my touch screen monitor isdesigned for Windows 7. I downloaded and created a media disk of Windows 8 Pro.I also have a desktop icon to install the program. I am aware that I only havetwo choices with the upgrade - Save Nothing or Save only Personal Files. Ichose to 'Save Personal Files'. Windows 8 at this point happily goes to throughthe installation process with no visible errors. Then at some point the screenbecomes dim as if the computer is going into sleep mode. I wait about 20minutes or more, there is no disk activity, I can move the mouse and see thecursor move across the screen. I can jiggle the mouse and nothing happens. Inever get to the Windows 8 Start Screen.
I then reboot the computer, more activity occurs after boot. I see the newWindows logo and the spinning activity circle. The computer then boots againwith the Windows logo and the spinning activity circle running. Then I finallyget an error message stating: Windows 8 was unable to install and your computeris being restored to its previous operating system. Do not reboot. In a matterof minutes the computer is restored to the Pre-release version of Windows 8which runs flawlessly along with all the programs, files and settings intact.
I have not tried to do a clean install, I do have a backup of my libraries. Butmy question is if I do a 'save nothing' what does this mean?
Here is the particulars of this machine:
Processor: 3.20 gig i7 960
Motherboard: Asus Rampage III Extreme
Bio: American Megatrends Inc. 1502 10/03/2011
Hard Drive: Hitachi HDS722020ALA330 (2000.40 GB)
Memory: 6 Mg
Graphic Card: ATI Radeon HD 5850
Monitor: Planar PX2230MX
Any assistance would be much appreciated.
