Windows 8 Sales Well Below Projections, Plenty of Blame

If Linux could run Windows apps natively or at least came with WINE or VMware pre-installed and I could run my Windows applications then I would switch. I have tried various version of Linux but non of them are as easy to use as Windows-7. If the Linux community would concentrate on making a consumer version of Linux I would give it a try.

Absolutely - and there has never been a better opportunity for Linux .

There's a couple of people trying their best - the guys who do Mint and Pinguy.

Credit to them for that.

But it's not enough for the mainstream.

They can't do it on their own.

I have VMware Workstation installed in W7 and Ubuntu 10.

My Windows VMs run smoother in Ubuntu, than W7!
I could just run Ubuntu 10 and Windows VMs.

Of course Linux management of cores is way better than in Windows , In linux you run VM nearly as fast as bare metal hypervisor ( hyper-v, ESXi , etc. )

I've been a major naysayer regarding Windows 8. Just bought a Logitech trackpad. Wow. What a difference it makes regarding the usability of Windows 8. Simple touch gestures allow me to navigate easily and quickly. I equate the experience to using Mountain Lion on my Mac. I would even suggest a touch pad over a touch screen.

how long do you think that it will be before companies like say Google , will develop a Desktop to blow Microsoft out of the water! Unthinkable it might be, but given the current reality, I think not.

It is possible.

This is the time there is great opportunity.

That doesn't mean it is going to happen.

Someone will have to get hold of it and make the investment.

You might think there is incentive for the OEM's to do so.

We shall see.

It would good for everyone if there was a truly viable alternative.

You would think that some of the global PC Manufacturers would club together to bring an open Linux OS, surely they would reclaim their investment against the reduced cost of not purchasing MS Licenses, just look what Google have done to the Mobile and Tablet market, in a few short years! Android is the NO1 selling Mobile OS, surely it's time for someone to hit Microsoft with some serious competition, there is definitely a market for it!........................;)

It's funny, but people keep saying there's a market for this or that, and every time someone tries, it.. nobody buys it. Look at googles ChromeOS for example.. an utter failure.

Apparently there isn't a market for it.

You can't really define ChromeOS as an operating system as such, it's basically a browser for internet connection, think AndroidX86 could be the basis of something good for Desktop!...............:thumb:
