If you asked crack users if it was more satisfying than a beer - what do you think they would say?

Does this mean we should all be using it?

Those kind of things mean very little.

As a Windows Phone user, I can't use android as it simply aggravates me, especially android 2. It's not a phone. It's a Desktop Lite device with telephone and SMS messaging apps onboard. Using an iphone makes me think I'm using a kids toy as EVERYTHING is rounded, overly shiny/glossy, and just so simple that even toy makers are building kid tablets. Using a Windows Phone feels right as it feels like a smartphone should. It doesn't feel like I'm taking my Windows PC along with me on a 4 inch screen, but then again I'm not a lonely adult who is more interesting in tweaking the UI of my phone and installing apps left and right and being convoluted in the land of apps than talking to people. ;) :)

And no, this type of data doesn't "mean very little." If it did, then people that will still camp out in lines days before the new iphone year after year even though the economy theoretically is slow wouldn't be there; as if the user satisfaction of the iphone wasn't there, then why even bother with a new one? If the one you have works just as well as the new one, why buy a new one? If it meant "so little," brand recognition/loyalty wouldn't exist and there wouldn't be a mass of iphone users or Windows Phone users or android users that say they like their phones and would recommend their phones to friends and family.

But of course, this means so little and is very insignificant in the purchase decision of someone looking to buy a smartphone...

The best win8 mobile can hope to achieve, is "also ran" status. Frankly I'll be surprised if they manage to match the new mozilla os currently being launched. Catching apple or android.... not in this lifetime.

The fact that you're including android in there attests to the fact that stranger things have happened.

Well, after two years, Windows Phone 7 will later (as predicted) overtake the blackberry in market share this November. Blackberry is obviously out of the game, but being overtaken by a platform that apparently has received less attention than the Blackberry, I don't know....

We can all have the same argument the entire IT community has been having... FOREVER or we can all just agree that iOS et al. Is a GREAT platform for the AVERAGE USER and Android/Win8 etc. Is great for the average to above average user. Not putting anyone down, if you're using your iOS machine as an average user would GREAT! SUPER! YAHOO! you're doing it right. If you like to play around with things a little more then maybe iOS isn't for you.

Well, the only people using WP7 are a bunch of Win pho/metro fanboys. Of course they're satisfied. Android phones are purchased by a wide variety of people, many who do not know about their phone OS or how to use it. Of course satisfaction levels will be lower. Especially on the people with free android bricks running some old OS and less ram than the original nexus had. People who buy droids because they run Android are mostly all satisfied.

P.S.
It's is science, but it's neither good nor rigorous. Surveys are notoriously hard to execute fairly and correctly.

That's not true at all. I know several people that have Windows Phone 7 phones. In particular, x-box gamers love it, because it has some integration with x-box live that allows them to track things. Zune lovers also seem to like it a lot.

One of my co-workers is a huge iPhone head, and he can't convince his kids to give up their Lumia's. And these are not technical people or Metro heads or anything. They just find the WP7 apps to be what they're looking for.

Believe it or not, there is this whole gigantic class of people that don't share your opinions.

I myself have gotten a few of my friends to switch to Windows Phone. They're not tech heads or metro lovers or anything, and they love their Windows Phone and wouldn't use android or iphone. I also have gotten a few more of my friends to switch to Windows Phone 8 handsets when their contracts are up for renewal as they've become exceedingly annoyed at their android phones. Tell me, have you ever seen someone get so pissed at their phone, that they actually bit it so hard to the point that the screen shattered? A hint, you won't see that happening with an iphone or Windows Phone user.

And yes, there are a class of people that don't share other peoples' thoughts and opinions.

Pretty much the point exactly.

Android SDK version market shares - AppBrain

One can't possibly say that the overwhelmingly huge chunk of android users that are still on older versions on newly built phones are satisfied with phones to the greatest possible extent. Some might like it, most probably don't.

And THAT, is also my point on how Windows Phone can grow in market share with low end Windows Phone 7.8 handsets and low to mid range Windows Phone 8 handsets.

A very recent one....
One in three U.S. smartphone subscribers use Apple's iPhone (see the graph)

According to the latest data from comScore's MobiLens service, Google's Android continued to enjoy the lion's share of the smartphone market, taking 52.2 percent of smartphone subscribers, up 1.4 percent from May, while Apple managed to gain 2 percent to finish with 33.4 percent over the same period. Beleaguered BlackBerry maker RIM continued its decline, dropping 2.1 percent to fall below the 10 percent mark, finishing July with a 9.5 percent share of the market.

Well, I don't believe it for a minute. But then again, apple users are all about the look.

For some that is, no doubt, the issue. Tell ya what, though. If I wasn't so deeply invested in Windows as a developer (I.E. I was just a standard user) I would seriously consider going Apple on my next go 'round. As it is I just bought all new Windows hardware so I'll be sticking around for a long time: but I'll be using most of my existing hardware and software. With this "Modern" look turning up everywhere I'm unlikely to buy anything more from Microsoft for a good while.

That's OK. Upgrading is sometimes for no other reason than to just get something "new". Maybe I'll give my wallet a break for awhile. ;-)
