Dang- cant edit from my phone: ...
I'm shocked!
There are a bunch of people here, who seem to insist that phones and tablets can do everything that desktops can do ... only better.
I don't remember anyone ever saying this. But try to think of it this way.
Suppose you're going to take a long trip with your spouse. You're going to want to take pictures. So, you bring along your camera. You're gonna want to shoot videos, so you bring along your video camera. Between destinations, you'll be sitting on the train for hours, so you're gonna want to do things like browsing the web, playing games, emails, perhaps work on that autobiography of yours, etc. So, you bring along your laptop. There will be times when you and your spouse will rent a car to drive around the town you're visiting, so you bring along a gps. At times, you will want to listen to music, so you bring along your cd or mp3 player. You will also want to be able to keep in contact with people, so you bring along your phone.
There was a time when people had to bring all of that. Nowadays, I just bring along my galaxy phone and tablet/laptop hybrid for all those things.
But hang on a second. A camera works infinitely better than a smartphone when it came to taking pictures. A video camcorder works infinitely better than a phone when you're shooting videos. Your xbox or ps3 is way better at playing games than your tablet. Document editing and browsing/emailing works infinitely better with a laptop or a desktop than a tablet.
The point isn't that the tablet works better with all those things. It just needs to work just good enough so we don't have to carry around 20 pounds worth of devices to do all those things.
A few months ago, my place got burglarized. They took my i7 desktop. I've been procrastinating at getting another desktop, so I just started plugging my hp envy x2 (a hybrid) into my large monitor and work from that. No, of course a desktop PC would work way better than this baby. But this thing works just good enough for me to not have any incentive to go out and buy another desktop. I can even play starcraft off of this thing from time to time. Battery lasts 12-14 hours, so I don't care about finding an outlet during the day. I use it to scan in documents to email them to people. No need to take a trip to the scanner.
I've found that tablet or hybrid haters haven't really tried to use these devices to make their lives easier. They insist that the desktop is still better to use, which I agree with. But the fact that I've been going strong with just this hybrid since January proves that it can be done. The x2 works just good enough for me to get things done.
Why don't you get one and try to use it for a week or so before caricaturizing how we use our hybrids.
