Windows 8 — Disappointing Usability

I am by no means a PC expert. I have been using PC's since Windows 95 and have used every version of Windows with the exception of Windows Vista. The bad press concerning Vista (at the time) kept me away from it and in hindsight, I'm glad I stayed away. I was reluctant to give Windows 8 a try because of the bad press again; however I wanted to take advantage of the 'upgrade before Jan. 31, 2013' deal for such a great price, and I am glad I did. With a few minimal steps (i.e. getting a third party START button), I say I am using Windows 7 (formerly my favorite version) that has so much more power, options, and versatility and it is called Windows 8. I won't post anything negative about it in here because it seems everyone else has that covered. I like it, I'll use it, and it works for me!

Good for you, there's plenty of people here that will post negative stuff, its refreshing to see a few of us getting along with it just fine.
Oh, and by the way Vista wasn't that bad, it just got a bad rep. Its main problem was a lot of people had older machines it wouldn't run on. If you saw it running today, you'd be very surprised at how good it looks and how well it runs.

Oh, and the Media is to blame for Vista as well as anything Microsoft, they hate MS with a vengeance and love Apple to the point of it being obscene.

I'm back!

I decided to give Windows 8 time to sink in (one week now from my initial 2 day disaster) and I'm starting to like it better than Windows 7.

Windows 8 seems slightly more responsive than Windows 7, the memory management in Windows 8 is better than that of Windows 7.

Boot time and shutdown in Windows 8 is slight faster even with an SSD and fast boot (hibernation disabled).

There a few bugs hear and there is Windows 8 but nothing that makes the OS unstable, in fact the Windows 8 is very stable (stable as Windows 7); considering Microsoft added a whole new GUI (Metro UI) and revamped the whole look and feel of the OS from Windows 7 there's nothing out of the ordinary stability wise.

Once you install Start8 (from Stardock) and disable the corners triggers (Windows key kept as default switch between Metro and Desktop), Windows 8 looks and feels just like Windows 7.

Considering Windows 8 is still very new, there's still plenty of room for improvement with driver updates, BIOS updates (maybe if motherboard/laptop is from 2010 or newer), Windows updates and service packs (rumors are might be called Windows Blue).

Looks like I'm here to stay...LOL :p

Welcome to Eight Forums sec, glad that you are getting on with Windows 8, some of us are finding it enjoyable.
Yea, the negative comments have pretty much covered everything.
Agree with Bill about Vista, it's a great OS, I never had any problems with it on an adequate machine.

Yes, welcome to EightForums, sec. And welcome back Nemix. :)

Dave says it well!

If I had upgraded my memory with Vista, I think I would have been ok with it. I was ignorant at that time I guess.
