Windows 8 - Dell N5110 - black screen

I don't think so. I am still hoping that it will be updated soon...

Hi,
I had the same problem. Black screen, but works with HDMI cable on my TV.
While connected to TV I updated Intel display driver but didn't help.
I disabled Intel driver and that worked but limited display options/resolution.
Then I installed BIOS A11 from Dell, then restarted and enabled the display driver and it worked!
So try flashing the BIOS, seems to fix the issue (unless it was disabling and re-enabling the updated Intel driver)

Hi ,I recently wanted to upgrade to W8. My dell 5110 came with W7.
So this is what I simply did,

Before installing windows 8,I downloaded the N5110A11 from dell website and installed.
After a system restart, I simply grabbed my W8 DVD and installed.
It worked perfectly. No need for an external monitor.

How do you do this when the screen is black and you can't see anything?
<br>
<br>
This is very easy.<br>
Right when your laptop is booting, spam (press repeatedly like your hand is having a seizure) the F8 button on your keyboard. You must do this very quickly. However, this has been met with little success for me, so another method is to Google search "Booting into Safe Mode with Networking on Windows 8 CP" (Google is AMAZING).<br>
Once you have successfully booted into Safe Mode with Networking, you will realise "OMG WINDOWS 8 LOOKS AMAZING AND CONFUSING (yes, I did go there) and you will also notice after that, "OMG MY SCREEN WORKS".<br>
<br>
Don't feel stupid, that's how I reacted too.<br>
<br>
Next, down load the drivers mentioned earlier in the forum. Now, install them. If they don't work for you, come back here and complain, and I will show you how to get your laptop into a working state that doesn't involve Safe Mode, allowing your screen to work somewhat.<br>
<br>
P.S I haven't tested the drivers yet, about to though, will return with results.
<br></br>Well, I followed all these instructions and no, I still have a similar problem. In my case, the way I can actually get a visible screen is to put my laptop to 'sleep' via the power button, then when I wake it up, voila, I have a full view. This is inefficient to say the least, so WestJ if you can provide me with a working solution, I would be grateful. My Win 8 has been installed on a clean partition and I have not loaded up my software yet.<br></br>If this doesn't get happening soon. I'll just have to go back to Windows 7...<br></br>Thanks for any help.<br></br>Pat. M<br>

Error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1

Hello,

We understand that many customers are receiving error 0xC1900101 – 0x40017 when installing Windows 8.1. This error is typically caused by an incompatible driver.

If you are receiving this error:
1.
First, please double-check the error code. There are many variations of error 0xC1900101, each with a different location code -- the error extension, located after the dash. The information in this thread is intended only for location code 0x40017. If you are receiving a different location code, these steps are unlikely to resolve your issue.

2.
Check that you’ve already updated all of your drivers. In particular, if you have an NVIDIA GeForce graphics card, make sure you’ve installed the latest Drivers - Download NVIDIA Drivers

3.
Check that you do not have any Frequently Asked Questions - What devices are supported by the SteelSeries Engine? that support the SteelSeries Engine installed on your PC. The SteelSeries Engine software is currently not supported on Windows 8.1. Please uninstall the software before attempting to update to Windows 8.1

I have had No issues with windows 8 with my N5110, before I upgraded from 7 to 8 I updated my bios which I recommend to everyone that has some technical knowledge, and my screen is working at perfect resolutions for the graphics card I have. Please update BIOS to A11 before upgrading so before you even put the upgrade disk or stick into the computer go to the Dell website and download the bios.
