Note   Note
Note that although you may previously purchase a legit Windows 8 product key, the product key is unlikely able to be used to install or upgrade to Windows 8.1. Hence you will need the following product key to initiate the install or upgrade:

Windows 8 (core): 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

Windows 8 PRO: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

The keys above will let you install 8.1, but that's all it does. After installation is complete, you will still have to activate with your own Windows 8 key.

Updated to Windows 8.1 and I'm stunned. Is this suppose to be BETTER? Holy christ. This is complete and utter garbage compared to Windows 8. Those horrific start screen icons with orange backgrounds which you can't change is a total no go for me. Back to Windows 8.

Those tile icons background color? No, you can't.

Compare this to Windows 8 start screen tile backgrounds. Can you see no difference?

Do the different colors mean anything? Almost all of mine have blue backgrounds in Windows 8.0. It's only the live tiles and a few Metro apps that have a different color. I don't see any way to change the color of the tiles in 8.0.

You can't change them in Windows 8.0 but you also don't need to. They're just fine with the theme color. They all have a same color in background excluding Metro Apps. But in 8.1 they're not. They're orange, blue, green, what ever. Looks horrible.

I can't be bothered to go and learn how to organise the start menu. I gave that a try when 8.0 first came out and no matter how I tried to organise things, it seems to have a mind of its own. I have always organised my desktop the way I want it and I even use a utility (DesktopOK) to restore things when Microsoft or some other program screws up my desktop. When I get 8.1 I will boot directly into my desktop and I won't care what Microsoft does with the Start Menu or the colour of those programs.

Maybe M$ should make more versions of their operation system, Windows 8 Phone, Windows 8 Tablet, Windows 8 Desktop, Windows 8 Metro, Windows 8 Desktop Pro, Windows 8 Metro Gamer ... Windows 8 Ultimate?

Does not work how exactly? That key will let you install 8.1 Pro but that's all it does. After that you have to activate with your own Windows 8 Pro key.

So basically, once the installation done with the produce key, purchase the Key... right? Thought everything was going to be done; no need to purchase necessary product key.

If you are not already running Windows 8 yes, you'll have to purchase a license/key. Windows 8.1 is a free upgrade to anybody already running Windows 8. If you do a clean install from the 8.1 ISO you have to enter a key to complete the install. The RTM ISO's will activate with a Windows 8 or Windows 8.1 key but will only install with an 8.1 key. The leaked keys let you install so you can then enter your Windows 8 key to activate with. I have no idea why they did it that way. You can also install and activate with a Windows 8.1 key, just not the leaked install keys. They are blocked on the activation server.
