Note   Note
Note that although you may previously purchase a legit Windows 8 product key, the product key is unlikely able to be used to install or upgrade to Windows 8.1. Hence you will need the following product key to initiate the install or upgrade:

Windows 8 (core): 334NH-RXG76-64THK-C7CKG-D3VPT

Windows 8 PRO: XHQ8N-C3MCJ-RQXB6-WCHYG-C9WKB

The keys above will let you install 8.1, but that's all it does. After installation is complete, you will still have to activate with your own Windows 8 key.

There could be legitimate reasons for this, though. The leaked version might not be the real RTM. It could also be a driver issue. Regardless, if this is in fact the real RTM, how could M$ release an unfinished product?

When MS released the RTM to its vendors they said it was NOT finished and updates are coming when it goes GA on OCT 17. That is why they have not released it to MSDN or TechNet. They are working with vendors to correct any problems.

Can anyone who has installed the RTM please answer one question: has the blurry text problem been corrected (it's more obvious in IE11)? I won't even bother downloading if it was ignored.

Think that was a problem with NVidia (still) BETA driver for 8.1 ... ATI have the same issue??

I can't even get Control Center for AMD to load, but I don't have Text Blur. 5800 series. Tried both 8.1 priev\other driver packages. Everything installs though.

I can confirm that M$ did NOT fix the blurry text problem. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE for an OS to be released with a bug that was known long before RTM.

There could be legitimate reasons for this, though. The leaked version might not be the real RTM. It could also be a driver issue. Regardless, if this is in fact the real RTM, how could M$ release an unfinished product?

Its another nail in the coffin for Win 8/8.1 in my case. I hope it eventually gets fixed, but as it stands now M$ has done nothing to sway me towards upgrading.

As this is not a wide spread problem, I would check your GPU/drivers.

For previous upgrades Microsoft used to supply a program to check out your system for upgrade problems. I hope they will have something like that when 8.1 is released in October.

I also hope that the 8.1 upgrade in October will look at my 8.0 system and offer a clean install option. I don't want any problems I have with devices upgraded to 8.1 problems.

The blurry text problem didn't show up until the last preview, and now the RTM. Its not a driver issue either.

Can you show a screen-shot of it ?

:)

Already moved back to Win 7, but here's a perfect example: Microsoft to Fix Blurry Text Bug in Windows 8.1 RTM

Its slightly worse on my display.

I've only noticed this happening in one program but I can't remember which one. Taking my time installing programs and testing for any compatibility problems thoroughly, PerfectDisk does not work with Windows 8.1.

So far all the latest drivers (non-beta) for my hardware manually searched and downloaded from driver sites works correctly in windows 8.1 with the exception of my NVIDIA Optimus video drivers which I believe have been stated working correctly in windows 8.1 with latest beta driver.

Make sure you tweet (@PerfectDisk)or post on Perfectdisks facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/PerfectDiskFans) that their app does not work in 8.1 Preview, or 8.1 RTM so they get the message for users so a patch comes. I've had Perfectdisk on my system for months now, unable to use it with 8.1 Preview and now RTM.

Notice on PerfectDisk site:

Windows 8.1 and Windows Server 2012 R2

Earlier this summer, we communicated that PerfectDisk 13 would be out by the end of the summer. Well, it will be close, but not quite summer. There were some late, unexpected changes we needed to make (due to Windows 8.1), pushing our release back a bit. Our sincerest apologies for those of you who have been patiently waiting for this release.

PerfectDisk 13 will be released to consumers on October 1st. Additional (business) editions will follow after that.
