Note that although you may previously purchase a legit Windows 8 product key, the product key is unlikely able to be used to install or upgrade to Windows 8.1. Hence you will need the following product key to initiate the install or upgrade:

There is most likely a tutorial, but, ::

You need the Windows installation media (DVD/USB, whatever)as the file source to install and enable .NET Framework 3.5 . T
1.Insert the Windows 8 installation media.
2.Open an elevated command prompt,and run the following command:

Dism /online /enable-feature /featurename:NetFx3 /All /Source:<drive>:\sources\sxs /LimitAccess

In the command, replace <drive> for the drive letter for the DVD drive (or for wherever you have the Windows 8 installation media.

It takes a while.

Completely fresh is mostly better, but if you do it with 8.1 atm, then you have to install .NET 3.5 etc. via DISM.

Yes, that's what I ended up doing.

There's an error message otherwise, with a link to an MS troubleshooting page, but the 'fix' listed doesn't work.

So the Windows 8.1 RTM is bootable when burned to disc? I should boot up with the 8.1 RTM disc, and it will give me the option to format/install?

Can anyone who has installed the RTM please answer one question: has the blurry text problem been corrected (it's more obvious in IE11)? I won't even bother downloading if it was ignored.

I already installed Office 365, which is Office 2013, under Windows-8-Pro-WMC-x64 before I upgraded to Windows-8.1-Pro-WMC-x64.

I've installed the trial version, it installed with out a hitch. I've been using Office 2010, this is my first attempt at using Office 2013. Other than the drab colors, I quite like it.

Guys do me a favor. Run the Modern Weather App that comes with 8.1. Afterwards check your Event Log and see if you have lots of errors relating to Bing Weather. I did a clean install of 8.1 Pro x64. I'm also seeing these:

1. I'm getting window update errors for Zune video and Zune music upgrades.


2. On the 'Defragment and Optimize Drives' menu I have two entries for SSD GPT partitions. The first is my C drive and the last on the list is the Recovery Partition. Under Windows 8.0 I could TRIM both partitions. Under 8.1 the Recovery TRIM fails with an error in my Event log. Anyone else see this?

How do I make the WZR RTM iso bootable on USB and/or DVDr?
I burned it to DVDr, however when I boot up, doesn't seem to be bootable (have to run setup from within windows)

Solved with reinstall of virgin OS. :eek:
Seems to be a problem because of "machine.config" file from .NET Framework 2/3.5 that were installed before Office?!? :think:

I can confirm that M$ did NOT fix the blurry text problem. This is absolutely UNACCEPTABLE for an OS to be released with a bug that was known long before RTM.

There could be legitimate reasons for this, though. The leaked version might not be the real RTM. It could also be a driver issue. Regardless, if this is in fact the real RTM, how could M$ release an unfinished product?

Its another nail in the coffin for Win 8/8.1 in my case. I hope it eventually gets fixed, but as it stands now M$ has done nothing to sway me towards upgrading.
