Windows 8.1 keeps trying to automaticly update to 10.

Anybody else been seeing this? I keep telling it not to install 10 and it keeps trying to install it instead of regular updates on fresh 8.1 loads. I unselect it and it always says downloading windows 10, checking system requirements, etc etc etc.

Im also noticing that multiple machines after being reloaded now if I manage to force it to "Not" keep getting windows 10 they are failing all updates after "Update 1" I believe is what it was called?

With Windows Update set to Download updates but let me choose when to install them, the checkbox for the free Windows 10 upgrade in optional updates is automatically ticked, whereas the checkbox for Definition Update for Windows Defender in important updates is not. So yes, I can confirm that Windows 8.1 keeps on pushing until you finally decide to hide the optional update...

Even if it's unchecked I'm still having it try to install. Hopefully it's just a bug in the new update system they will fix.

Looking through installed updates, have KB2976978 and KB3035583 been installed? Thess update are the ones that pushes the Windows 10 upgrade onto Windows 8.1 (people tend to overlook KB2976978, but it's involved in the reservation process, too). If so, then uninstall them. Then do a check for updates. Now you'll see that KB2976978 and KB3035583 will be there ready to be installed. Right-click on them and select to hide them. That should stop Windows 10 being installed. Sometimes MS will propose these updates again, in which case you'll just have to hide them again.

Thanks for that info. I always wondered what the setup installed before it finished booting that first time when it said installing updates.

So, I actually DID upgrade, and had to reinstall 8.1--due to glitchiness caused by old drivers (I kept waiting for updates to come, they didn't, and eventually the 30 second-minute or more long hangs drove me to downgrade)--but I was past the 30 day easy revert period and had to fresh install. Despite having deleted all of the partitions on my hard drive and starting anew (I thought), I am showing various updates from 2014 (prior to my reinstall, which was a few days ago), including the 2 mentioned above--and do not have the option to delete any updates (those or any others) acquired before the reinstall, HA. Halp?!
