windows 8.1 install fail from product key

i have a problem switching from windows 7 home premium to window 8.1

I was just researching this , and in order for you to upgrade from Windows 7 to Windows 8.1 , you must download the official
Upgrade assistance from the Microsoft website.

He never did answer your question about the key.

Anyway, when I upgraded from 8 to 8 Pro I used the ProPack.
I didn't pay attention to the old oem product key.
When I upgraded from 8 Pro to 8.1 Pro, the product key stayed the same.
8 Pro key = 8.1 Pro key.
It would be interesting to know if all 3 keys were the same.

My main point is the 8.1 Pro installed nicely from the Windows Store link, using the 8 Pro key, which it adopted.
I updated using my Microsoft account.

I just mention all this because you said,

You know more about this stuff than I do.
I was hoping for further information on the subject from you.

idk they key was already provided ntot sure what key it was, but anyways, the real question i had was is it even possible to upgrade from windows 7 all the way to windows 8.1 without windows 8?

and the key was already frovided inside the file, so it was automaticly authenticating it to begin with, no manual way to put the key in

The two main error using a Windows 8 key are






The Pro Pack is a upgrade key from Windows 8 Core to Pro & MC.

The Windows 8 key is for Clean installs or Upgrade from a lower version of Windows only.

Looks like OP's error is trying to upgrade with a non Windows 8.1 key.

Install with the correct key for the version you have a legal key for, once your installed activate with your KEY these keys will only allow you to install they will not activate. This is how I Clean installed win 8.1Pro from a Win 7 HP OEM, I had bought the key for $14.95 Win 8 pro in July before win 8 was released. I didn't install until 8.1 was released.

my windows 8.0 is already activated, the problem is when upgrading to windows 8.1 it doesn't go to a screen where I can input the code
it goes from that's straight what it goes to, theres no way for me to insert a key

When I installed Windows 8.1 on my PC , that error didn't occur with me, which is very odd.

It sounds like your trying to install a different Version of 8.1 from your 8? I think the choices are Core, Pro, or single language Going with the upgrade path you have to match the version on your computer!

Your computer started out as a win7 hp? so you don't have an embedded product key. I can't understand where your 8.1 install is picking up a Key with out you inputting one?

I didn't try the upgrade path as I know from experience that clean installing it the best way to go, less issues and windows gets a fresh start

2) Use a Genuine Microsoft Windows 8/8.1 UNTOUCHED DVD/USB disk.
