Win 8 x64 can't detect DVD-RW LG GSA-H10H

Both my optical drives works in win8, so I can't check it, but could it be a driver-issue for the sata-controller?

In my case, unlikely. My hdd is SATA and right next to where the DVD drive is hooked in... But who knows, maybe you're right. It seems though it's primarily LG drives that have my problem...

EDIT: You just might be on to something! I just discovered it's only my top 3 sata ports that are not functioning, my bottom 3 work. I moved the connection and scanned for hardware changes and suddenly it has reappeared!

1. Run Command Prompt as an Administrator. Type cmd in Windows 8 Metro UI and press cltr+shift+enter

2. Type following and say enter

reg.exe add "HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\atapi\Controller0" /f /v EnumDevice1 /t REG_DWORD /d 0x00000001

3. Reboot the system

4. Verify if the problem has been resolved.

Remember, allthough SATA support both HDD, SSD and optical drives, it is not the same kind of hardware, and not the same part of the driver being used. F.i. my ekstra Marvell controller on my mobo supports harddrives on the sata, but NOT optical drives at all. Hope others will reply to this, maybe the solution will be to find new chipset-drivers ??

Maybe people with the problem will write which mobo (chipset) they use? I, for a start, has ASUS P7P55D-E, and intel SATA ports works fine with my 2 optical drives.

Interestingly I do not see my sata controller in device manager, only IDE and ATA Channel 0 & 1
(Was gonna list the driver and HWID)

If/when it asks for the DVD driver during Windows install, simply make sure there are no external HDDs or USB sticks attached to the system and try again.

I don't think that has anything to do with finding an optical drive within Windows after install.

I, along with others, are trying to find a solution to this within the SDK of the operating system. Some have this problem and other do not. Very odd indeed.

With any luck, along with Microsoft's help, maybe we can find the solution to this. None of the other operating systems, IE Windows 2000, NT, XP, Vista, or 7 have had these symptoms, so it should be something fairly simple. :)

VERY HELPFULL: also had my DVD-RW on 6th SATA port and switching to the second one (those my second HDD was plugged into) SOLVED THE ISSUE!!! THANK YOU SOOOO MUCH!!!
