Win 8 update today installed Bing Desktop: cannot remove

Two surprises this morning:
* Bing was in the installed programs (it was NOT there when I started this thread...appeared after starting the computer this morning), so I uninstalled it, programs(x86)/windows/BingDesktop was still there [my path may not be 100% accurate]
* Went to Restore and picked a point before the 2/13/2014 and got an error message that either the power went off or some other conditions, so the restore failed.

I have now picked an earlier point and it is still grinding away. I have to run out for an appointment. Hope it is not hung up!! Not sure what to do if it is!?!

I got the message below, so I turned off the firewall and virus protection in Zone Alarm and tried the Restore two more times. Still getting the same error. Maybe remove Zone Alarm completely? Try something else?

Today's Windows 8 update (from patch Tuesday this week) installed Bing Desktop. Now I have this ugly green desktop, and Bing does not show up in the installed applications.

Suggestions welcomed...

Todd

Very surprising, since I've run Patch Tuesday without the Bing Desktop being installed. However, come to think on it, some time back, I told Windows Update to hide the Bing Desktop.

@Xwe and the rest: Is it possible that hiding the Bing Desktop awhile back kept it hidden and subsequently, it wasn't installed?

Final chapter: tried several times with the System Restore, but it kept giving the message I posted. So, I did the choice where I need to re-install some apps, but the data is in place. The worst part is removing all of the "crap wear".

Thank you so much for your support...hopefully I will not go through this again!

It's possible.
I can't really tell because I did a complete restore recently.
