WiFi fails on W8.1 with Ethernet Remote Desktop Connection

Network on my Lenovo Yoga running W8.1 works fine over both wireless and Ethernet (USB dongle).

I have an iMac initiating a Remote Desktop connection to the Yoga via a direct Ethernet cable between the devices. Everything works fine on the W8.1 device except the WiFi can no longer connect to any access points and thus the Yoga has no Internet/network access--it just fails immediately when I select an access point for connection.

I do see an Event ID 8000 from NETwNe64 around the time of this failure; not sure if it's the same cause.

If I log back into the Yoga (and thus break the Remote Desktop Ethernet connection and take over that session), wireless works perfectly again. Thus it is clear that WiFi is only down when the device is accessed via RDP over Ethernet.

Any suggestions how to troubleshoot?

It doesn't get that far--fails immediately when I click on the relevant WLAN without prompting for key. Is there a particular way I should get it to prompt me?

ah didn't realize you wasn't even getting that far. I am not sure what else could possibly be holding it up besides some sort of policy or blockage but I wouldn't even know where to start looking for that.

I found a decent workaround although it's not perfect. If I configure the iMac to share its Internet connection, I can then use the Ethernet connection between the W8.1 laptop and the iMac for Internet access as well as for the RDP session. Thus I am online in RDP. I'd rather have my WiFi not shut down while connected via RDP but this at least works for now.
