The "who" is just about everyone over at tenforums.com. The "why"? Well we're awaiting reports back from medical professionals who can tell us if those in question are of sound mind and body; yet would want to make such a perilous decision as moving to Windows 10. :p

Just kidding of course (I'm simply not a fan of Windows 10)

As I just said on the Ten forums the mandatory updates make me wary, 1: because of Windows Updates that have caused issues in the past and 2: I wonder if Microsoft will install bloatware to make up for the free upgrade.

The short answer to "why" is, because they can. ;)

Windows 8.x seems fine for my Laptop. If I get another desktop I think I'll try to put Windows 7 Pro on it. If I ever do a smart phone or tablet then I'll probably go with W10.

I'm upgrading both my Win7 laptop and Win8.1 desktop to Win10. Why?: because it will be supported longer, it will be eventually more secure(they're slowly getting rid of all system32 stuff), and on my laptop at least, it ran the preview much more stable than Win7.

I really do not under stand why people want to hang on to old BSOD 7(the new XP:p). Just browse Windows Seven Forums and count the BSOD threads and compare it to Eight Forums, I think Tem will be even better.

Cliff never had issues with XP or 7. 10 will never hit any laptops I manage.

Office 2k16 is just Office 365 with a twist. 10 will cost after 12 months.

If I wanted to be screwed. I would go get divorced.

. 10 will cost after 12 months.
Huh???
[h=4][SUP]1[/SUP]Windows Offer Details[/h]Yes, free! This upgrade offer is for a full version of Windows 10, not a trial. 3GB download required; standard data rates apply. To take advantage of this free offer, you must upgrade to Windows 10 within one year of availability. Once you upgrade, you have Windows 10 for free on that device.
Windows 10 Upgrade Offer is valid for qualified Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices, including devices you already own. Some hardware/software requirements apply and feature availability may vary by device and market. The availability of Windows 10 upgrade for Windows Phone 8.1 devices may vary by OEM, mobile operator or carrier. Devices must be connected to the internet and have Windows Update enabled. Windows 7 SP1 and Windows 8.1 Update required. Some editions are excluded: Windows 7 Enterprise, Windows 8/8.1 Enterprise, and Windows RT/RT 8.1. Active Software Assurance customers in volume licensing have the benefit to upgrade to Windows 10 enterprise offerings outside of this offer. To check for compatibility and other important installation information, visit your device manufacturer’s website and the Windows 10 Specifications page. Additional requirements may apply over time for updates. Security and features are kept automatically up-to-date which is always enabled. See the Windows 10 How to Upgrade page for details.

Do we have any idea on the number of upgrades that will take place globally at the end of the month ? Is that information out there anywhere, number of reserved copies and so on ?

It would be interesting to know.

For my laptop - Yes, because Win 10 will presumably be supported longer than Win 8.1. I will keep an image of my 8.1 installation for a while until 10 proves to be as reliable as 8. I have not had an OS crash or blue screen since 10/2013. I normally sleep my computer so it runs for weeks without a restart except for occasional windows update required restart).

For my wife's Win 7 laptop - Maybe, if I can talk her into it. Same deal with the image. For her the only thing worse than using a computer is using a computer that she is not familiar with, so she may insist on it staying as is. Hey, at least I got her to throw out her typewriter!

Huh???
10 will be free for 3 years, MS statement, then it will become a full paid service, or something like that.
no No NO!

The free upgrade time frame, last one year, after that one year, if you decide to upgrade then you will have to pay for a key.

After you have upgraded you can reinstall using an ISO as often as you like(10 time a day if you so wish). If you decide you do not like Win10, you can just reinstall/reimage Win8.

Once you have upgraded(this only goes for upgrades not retail copies) to 10, it's connected only to that device and is yours forever.

There will never be a fee to use Windows 10, never ever ever.

For more information go to this link from Mystere in the Ten Forums: Frequently Asked Questions about the WIndows 10 Free upgrade

People seriously think, they will be able to use Windows for 100 years for free? MS is not a charity.
Give me an official Microsoft link to that information please...

End of support End of support refers to the date when Microsoft no longer provides automatic fixes, updates, or online technical assistance. This is the time to make sure you have the latest available update or service pack installed. Without Microsoft support, you will no longer receive security updates that can help protect your PC from harmful viruses, spyware, and other malicious software that can steal your personal information. For more information go to Microsoft Support Lifecycle.

time. These concepts led our development and you saw them come to life today.Delivering Windows as a Service and a Free Upgrade to Windows 10

Today was a monumental day for us on the Windows team because we shared our desire to redefine the relationship we have with you – our customers. We announced that a free upgrade for Windows 10 will be made available to customers running Windows 7, Windows 8.1, and Windows Phone 8.1 who upgrade in the first year after launch.*
This is more than a one-time upgrade: once a Windows device is upgraded to Windows 10, we will continue to keep it current for the supported lifetime of the device – at no cost. With Windows 10, the experience will evolve and get even better over time. We’ll deliver new features when they’re ready, not waiting for the next major release. We think of Windows as a Service – in fact, one could reasonably think of Windows in the next couple of years as one of the largest Internet services on the planet.

Yes I'll upgrade my notebook and desktops, but not right away most likely toward the end of the free upgrade period. Why sooner or later I will upgrade anyway so it best to do this while its still free. I'm looking at the first SP or Upgrades as they seem to want to call them. And a path for a clean install.
My path to window 8 was I bought in on the offer of Win 8 pro for $40 I think it was. I bought Product keys for my desktops. my notebook came with a $9.95 upgrade to 8 Pro. and my Wife's HP All in one touch scree came with 8. I just upgraded the last desktop to 8.1 Pro also new MB and CPU

I'm going to upgrade my 2 desktops and 2 laptops. Then see how it goes, and if I have no issues I'll likely stay with Windows 10. I can easily go back to 8.1 if need be.

being married, a very long time, I could add if I wanted to get screwed, I would get married, again.. :)
Cliff never had issues with XP or 7. 10 will never hit any laptops I manage.

Office 2k16 is just Office 365 with a twist. 10 will cost after 12 months.

If I wanted to be screwed. I would go get divorced.
