Solved Where can I find Windows 8 key for HP laptop?

Hi everyone,

My sister in law has a laptop (HP 655) that shipped with Windows 8. After doing the 8.1 Upgrade last night, it keeps on asking her for her key (this was the upgrade, not clean installation). There's no key under the laptop's case, and they also checked the documentation that came with it; nothing. Where can she find the key, or how can she go about solving the problem, without having to resort to HP's limited support options in South Africa?

How to view Windows 8/8.1 OEM product key from UEFI firmware (BIOS)?

Open an elevated command prompt and type (or copy and paste) the following command:

powershell "(Get-WmiObject -query ‘select * from SoftwareLicensingService’).OA3xOriginalProductKey"

This product key is being used on another PC. Please try a different key.

Click on the Call support option.

Note: The activation robot asks you how many PCs you have installed Windows on. The correct answer is number 1.
