Some people swear by their Norton 360, and for them it is probably adequate if you do not stray far beyond Facebook or Email. But I am always searching the deep Fringes of the Net and Hidden Wiki all the time and I need something much stronger. Don't know if Defender (MSE) and NOD32 can be run together, the Windows 7 MSE could not be installed and then install Eset over it, it was one or the other. Normally in 8 when you install am AV suite, defender gets disabled.

The thing I have seen happen is the Sirefef virus rewrites the definition file of Defender and then re-activates it even with other AV programs. So what happens, is when you try to download any file that has anything to do with an AV program, it gets deleted. It also disables your firewall which is a major pain. The only way around it is to rename your Windows Defender Folder and then download the Eset Sirefef Removal Tool, that will delete Sirefef from Defender. Once it gets into Defender, it spreads all through the system and even to other networked systems. Sometimes it will take up to three reboots for the Removal Program to get it all.
