USB Recovery Drive will not work

I have created a Windows 8 Recovery Drive from another machine. I have inserted it into the defective machine and have changed the BIOS to make the USB the first boot device. The machine just goes to a black screen and nothing happens.

Any ideas?

Did you test the recovery USB (does it boot) on the other machine and what is the problem with the defective machine?

The machine would not switch on. The original error message was UNMOUNTABLE BOOT VOLUME. After trying some ideas for dealing with that decided that the best option was to try and boot from a USB recovery Drive and then try and recover the system without affecting the files on the hard disk.

Have made the Boot Disk (although not tested it) and when I try and boot from it the screen just goes black. Not even the comfort of BSOD!

If you have a friend with an Windows 8 disk try to do the repair with that.

I found that a Windows 8 repair disk that I made on a BIOS computer would not work on a UEFI computer.

I'm not sure if it applies to Recovery drives too, seems like it might.
