Unable to log into Outlook/Hotmail email a/c

Have new laptop OS win8.1

Am able to start using password ???.Hotmail.com but cannot access mail. Each time I try with the mail app I get a full screen just showing the mail envelope.

When trying to add a/c I am informed that already exists obviously!

My desktop with Win7-64 hasn't any problems.

Assistance appreciated.

Further: I am able to open/log in to my email a/c - [Removed by Admin] - so my wife's laptop must me set up for email.

I have checked her laptop and she definitely has an Outlook a/c. Why is she unable to access this?
