I used the link you sent me and decide to uninstall a program Spy hunter that I forgot I had, believing it was interfering with Windows Defender. However, once I try to uninstall it my computer goes to a black screen and I must manually shut it down and when I log back in it's still there. I believe this is why Windows Defender isn't working. Also, do I have to uninstall MBAM?

No you don't, malwarebytes can be run besides of a AV program.

EDIT, about spyhunter, try this uninstaller utility from Microsoft.
It is recommended to disable and stop the services from spyhunter, boot into safe mode and run the uninstaller utility How to boot into safe mode
This so spyhunter won't interfere with the uninstallation procedure.
